I also have extensive experience supporting veterans and military families.
Life often asks us to perform at our best—whether in school, sports, career, or relationships. But high standards and constant pressure can leave you feeling drained, stuck, or disconnected from what really matters. You may be pushing forward on the outside while quietly battling stress, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, or self-doubt on the inside. Therapy is a space where you can slow down, reflect, and rediscover balance. Together we’ll explore the patterns holding you back, strengthen what’s already working, and build strategies that help you feel both grounded and capable of moving toward your goals with confidence.

A significant part of my caseload is service members and military families.
I'm Robyn, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 13 years of experience helping adults navigate some of life's most demanding roles: being a parent, a partner, a provider, and sometimes all three at once. I work with men who are ready to go deeper — whether that means becoming more present as a father, strengthening their relationships, or finally making sense of experiences they've carried for years. I also work with parents navigating the weight of family stress, conflict, and trauma that gets passed down in ways we don't always recognize.

From the outside, you’re functioning well—you get things done, show up for others, and carry a lot of responsibility. But internally, it feels different. You may be constantly “on,” overthinking, pushing yourself to meet high expectations, or feeling stuck in patterns you can’t seem to break. You might struggle to slow down, feel overwhelmed by your emotions, or notice the same relationship dynamics repeating. Many of the people I work with have tried therapy before but felt like it didn’t go deep enough. I specialize in working with high-functioning adults who already understand what’s happening—but are ready to create real change.

At Refined Therapy Group, we provide personalized, compassionate therapy for individuals and couples in a warm, collaborative environment where you can feel seen, supported, and empowered. Many of our clients are highly motivated for change but feel emotionally stuck, overwhelmed, or exhausted. They may struggle with anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, chronic stress, or the emotional demands of work or caregiving. Although they have developed ways to cope, they often find themselves repeating the same emotional or behavioral patterns and are ready for something different.

Previous training at Stanford Medical Center and VAs provided the foundation for working with trauma, high-functioning anxiety, depression, men's therapy, and military/veterans.
You've built a life that looks like it's working. You show up, you follow through, you take care of the people who depend on you. And still, something underneath doesn't add up: a low hum of anxiety that doesn't track with your circumstances, a flatness that persists despite doing everything "right," or a reaction that comes on too fast and too hard to explain by the moment that triggered it. These symptoms are rarely random. They may come from a protective place - a learned attempt to prevent pain, threat, or overwhelm from happening again. Our work helps you understand what that was and build the safety to respond differently.

In a world that often encourages us to think about our emotions rather than feel them, Experiential-Focused Therapy offers something different, something deeper. It is a therapeutic approach grounded in the belief that true, lasting healing happens not just through insight or analysis, but through direct emotional experience. Here, we don’t just talk about your pain, we carefully and compassionately invite it into the room, where it can be felt, held, and transformed in real time. Using the principles of deep emotional processing, we work with the parts of you that may have been silenced, dismissed, or buried for years.

You are successful by every external measure - and exhausted by an internal one no one else can see. The decisions you carry don't come with simple answers. They involve your business, your relationships, your sense of who you are and who you're becoming. You've tried thinking your way through. You've tried pushing harder. The weight hasn't lifted. I work with founders, executives, and high-responsibility professionals in California and Oregon who need more than traditional talk therapy. My clients are people who think deeply, carry heavily, and sense that the clarity they need requires going somewhere some therapy doesn't go.

First Responders Therapists
Why is mental health important for first responders?
As part of their work, first responders are often exposed to high levels of stress, trauma, and physical injury that can put them at a greater risk for serious mental health conditions than the general population. Conditions like PTSD, anxiety, substance use, and depression are more common in first responders, which can greatly reduce quality of life and lead to burnout, sleep disruption, and even suicidal thoughts. Therapy can offer an opportunity for first responders to process difficult on-the-job experiences and develop coping skills to better manage any mental health symptoms they may experience.

How can first responders get access to mental health support?
Many first responders can access therapy for free or at a very low cost through their employer, such as through an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Workplaces may also offer or have referral recommendations for support groups, where first responders can meet with others in their profession to receive support. Individuals who would like to access mental health services outside of their employer may use their insurance benefits to see a therapist, which they can find by searching for therapists online or asking for recommendations from their primary care physician.

What type of therapy is best for first responders?
The best therapy approach depends on the mental health concerns of the client. Since many first responders struggle with trauma or PTSD, they may benefit from trauma-specific therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Exposure Therapy, or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Individuals with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or stress may alternatively benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches, which can help clients develop coping skills to manage distressing thoughts.

Can therapy for first responders help with trauma and PTSD?
Therapy can be highly effective in both treating and preventing trauma and PTSD in first responders. Typically, therapy for trauma and PTSD focuses on developing stress management skills and managing intrusive or unwanted thoughts. Therapists working with first responders often help clients strengthen their relationships and reduce harmful coping mechanisms, such as excessive substance use. Additionally, therapists assist first responders in establishing daily habits that support overall mental and physical health and enhance resilience to future stress, such as regular physical exercise, mindfulness practices, and improved eating habits.
