I have been a psychologist more than 25 years. This has given me an opportunity to develop a style that optimizes my skills and experience; to give you what you want or need to achieve personal satisfaction. My methodology is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and humanistic psychotherapy. It is important to me to understand your concerns without preconceived notions. Some tools I find helpful in this regard are knowledge, experience, intuition, patience, and caring.

Don't you sometimes wish you knew what "normal" adolescent behavior is and what is not? How to talk to your teen about drugs, sex, and your own issues in parenting? Worried about your adolescent and think he or she could benefit from professional help? I have worked with teens since 1992. If you are concerned about what's really going on inside your teenager's head, perhaps I can help. You can contact me (and learn more about me) at: Leda@teentherapylosangeles.com
My approach to therapy is focused on facilitating change in both perception and behavior leading to enhanced quality of life. The process is focused both historically (looking at early developmental experience) and in the moment (current perceptions, fears, and values that shape our current behavior). I find we each view the world in a unique way related specifically to our own developmental experiences and that view shapes what we expect from ourselves and others. It affects the decisions we make, and the direction our life takes, sometimes without us being fully aware of this powerful influencing force.
Currently accepting tele-health clients. Are you overwhelmed? Are negative thoughts or feelings getting in your way? By instilling a sense of hope and activating positive change, I can help you address issues of anxiety, depression, loss, relationship dynamics, and academic/work related stress. Utilizing EMDR Therapy, we can work through past traumas and experiences to create pathways for well-being and fulfillment. Through a safe therapeutic setting, I use a strengths based approach to empower you to process negative thoughts and emotions, and tap into internal and external resources to maximize coping and thriving.
My ultimate goal in practicing psychotherapy is to help my clients become their own therapists. I like to provide tools for change, using cognitive behavioral techniques. I provide psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, couples, and families, specializing in therapy for anxiety, mood disorders, attentional issues, grief, trauma, and loss. I also work with athletes, individually, helping them with anxiety, performance, and life balance.
After almost 40 years as a therapist I still find working with adolescents and adults, exciting and challenging. Each person brings their unique issues to therapy and together we craft a way to move towards a positive solution. Therapy is a way to challenge yourself, reinvent and rediscover yourself. It is hard work and satisfying when you move towards accomplishing your personal goals.
Counseling is a team effort. As the client, you are the expert on your life and history. We work with you to understand what you want and need in order to help you overcome life's roadblocks-large and small-that inhibit feelings of well-being, confidence and success. We provide a supportive environment where you can feel safe to discuss life's issues without judgment. Each person's situation is unique, and when you first call we will discuss what your needs are. The initial 15 minute phone consultation is free of charge. From there we will set up an in-office appointment.
I see couples all the time who love each other desperately but just can’t seem to make it work. Some couples put it this way: “It’s like we keep having the same fight over and over again and nothing ever gets resolved. We just have a big fight, followed by silence, and then we just go back to our daily lives without ever working through the issues until the next fight happens. I don’t know what’s happening or why it’s happening but it’s just awful.”
*Jan 2021: Hi, my active client & wait lists are full. You deserve help, keep looking!* I help adults, kids, and families in any combination find new ways to understand their concerns, and create peace in their lives. With respect, compassion, and genuine curiosity we explore issues without judgment or criticism. My office is a safe space to be yourself -- no shame, no blame. Often, it's our ability to see things from a different perspective that allows us to start healing, re-connecting, and making the changes we want, to enjoy greater academic and professional success, freedom from painful memories, and stronger emotional health.
CORONA VIRUS UPDATE: For 2021 my main focus is to help people affected by the unprecedented affects and after affects of this pandemic. If you read my blog, you will see how this pandemic affected me and my family. In California we saw the largest surge of this virus and every day we were bombarded with horrific news, news interviews with families that have lost loved ones or lost their business, and how the stay at home mandate has affected our physical and mental health. You do not need to feel alone, hopeless, scared, and lost. My personal story and skills bring an awareness and empathy perhaps not understood by many.
I offer convenient services in your own home or just anywhere else you’d like. No stuffy offices or awkward clinical settings. I come to you on your own terms, wherever you feel most comfortable: your living room, a coffee shop, a local park. How about a walk & talk therapy session, instead of lying down on a couch? Sure thing. Coffee and counseling? I can do that. I use an effective combination of cognitive behavioral techniques and mindfulness practices to help kids and families develop lifelong coping skills. My approach lends itself well to tackling tough issues, such as anxiety and depression, and turning struggle into success.
I provide a safe, comfortable environment for clients to explore difficult life situations. Whether it is grief, anxiety, depression, parenting issues or addiction and abuse, I work with the client at his or her pace to help gain deeper understanding and achieve greater coping skills with difficult personal challenges. I offer a sliding scale fee schedule.
I specialize in working with dually diagnosed individuals and their families with severe and persistent mental illnesses, such as Polysubstance Dependence, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder with Psychotic Features, Bipolar Disorder, and Acute Anxiety Disorders. I have always had a special interest in working with family and couples, especially where one or both suffer from severe mental illness. I am on staff at several local inpatient and outpatient mental health facilities, and help facilitate hospital admissions in a sensitive and professional manner. I offer individual and family community interventions as needed. I also help professionals coping with workplace stress.
