I have experience working with high-conflict families and couples and appreciate the work involved in finding new ways of relating. It is a privilege to enter into the lives of my clients, therefore, holding space that shows reverence, curiosity, and compassion is key. My style is warm yet directive. I operate from a strength-based perspective and will highlight the values held by my clients along with the many strengths they bring. Lastly, I appreciate collaboration and feedback from clients regarding what works, what is not working, and what could be done differently to achieve emotional wellness.

Since I also provide therapy in Spanish I have an understanding and sensitivity of the immigrant experience and the experience of children of immigrants. I believe my clients have innate strengths and wisdom and it's my pleasure and privilege to help them rediscover this. I have been a licensed therapist since 1989. I've been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is very helpful in treating depression and anxiety. Later on, I became interested in effective treatments for trauma and became a certified EMDR therapist in 2009.

Hi! My name is Naomi. With over 20 years in the field of psychotherapy, I bring the education, experience, and skills to help you through the issues you're facing. I treat people, not symptoms, by addressing the whole of you with mind and body interventions. After our first conversation, I will tell you if I'm not the best person to help you and suggest a referral if we don't "click". I do not work with any one specific group or symptom and would never want to limit my practice to one specialty so my profile may sound a little different.

Do you find yourself repeating patterns and dynamics in your relationships that don’t feel authentic to how you want to live your life? We all experience painful and difficult emotions but we don’t have to go through them alone. I work from a trauma-informed perspective, with the belief that your childhood, conditioning, and past experiences all influence the way you show up in your current life. Coping skills that were once necessary for survival are no longer efficient and sometimes even work against you as an adult.

As a psychologist, I aim to aid my clients in achieving their goals. I can help clients identify factors that may be challenging their successes in life and causing distress. Often clients cannot really identify the origins of the problem. This is where I work with the client to understand their past, build a healthy personal narrative of themselves and encourage positive thinking and behaviors to support a healthy mindset in the future.

Hello! I am so glad you found your way here. In today’s fast-paced world, taking care of your emotional and mental well-being is an urgent need. I primarily work with couples and when I get lucky I have the privilege to sit with the whole family. I believe the problem lies in the larger context as opposed to in an individual. So, in our sessions, we will have conversations around childhood attachments, culture, race, gender, ancestry, immigration, religion etc., and how these themes impact the way we show up in our relationships with others and ourselves. I am trained, and specialize in several couple’s therapy modalities.

Hello and welcome! I work from a strengths-based perspective, helping you to recognize your strengths and achieve your goals in a thoughtful and supportive way. Overcoming life’s stressors and challenges becomes an opportunity for the transformation of a lifetime. As one begins their therapeutic journey by looking within, ameliorating the traumas and wounds of their past, and identifying their inner strength and resiliency, the beauty of one’s true authentic self emerges. It is then that lifelong peace and stability are found, and life begins anew.

I truly believe “Shame dies when stories are told in safe places.” Whatever it is that you are dealing with at the current moment, be it anxiety, stress, burnout, imposter syndrome, or substance abuse, I know it comes with a story. It's ok not to be ok at times. Additionally, do you think you are a perfectionist? Do you have a hard time saying no? Have you been told you are too sensitive or that you care too much? Are you compulsively taking responsibility for the needs of others? If the answer to any of the above is YES, I want you to know that high functioning Anxiety is a thing and one way or another it will lead to burnout.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
