There is really no issue to big or too small to bring to therapy. I have seen people go through so much positive change because of their work in therapy and think it is such an awesome process. Just because we can go through life in survival mode and bouncing off our ups and downs, does not mean we should. I love to talk about everything therapy, so I encourage people to reach out.

I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, broken relationships, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, financial recklessness, and gambling. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

I am also particularly well suited for individuals navigating multicultural identities, life transitions, relationship challenges, psychosis, ADHD, and the everyday stressors that come with being human.
One of my core beliefs about therapy is that if you can’t laugh with someone, it’s hard to feel safe enough to share the harder parts, too. In our work together, there is room for both. I see therapy as a space where all your feelings and experiences are welcome—where we can explore them with curiosity and respect, as a way to better understand yourself and create meaningful change.

Do you need support finding your life’s purpose? Do you feel overwhelmed? Do you find it difficult to feel pain and face your shadows? While considering the whole person- heart, soul, mind and body, I trust that you enter therapy having the insight you need to navigate your distress. I use the term "depth emergence" to explain my orientation and approach. It stems from depth psychology, which emphasizes gaining access to the unconscious and bringing it into consciousness. While increasing awareness we derive meaning, evolve, and transform.

I began my career behind the camera, where every frame was a confession and every cut a defense. That insight pulled me from film sets into the human mind. I earned an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at Cal Lutheran University, then a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, specializing in Depth Psychology. In practice, I work psychoanalytically: slowing the film, studying the frame, listening for the lines never spoken. Transference isn’t jargon—it’s the projector casting the past onto the present. Together, we confront the shadows you’d rather cut, because only by facing them can your story move toward freedom.

My practice focuses on working with individuals who are struggling with persistent emotional or relational difficulties that are not easily resolved through short-term approaches. This often includes experiences rooted in early development—what psychoanalysis describes as primitive mental states—which can influence how one feels, thinks, and relates to others. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Certified Psychoanalyst working with patients across the lifespan—from adolescence through senior adulthood—in a full-time psychoanalytic private practice in downtown San Luis Obispo.

We live in a time of great change. Many of the changes are forcing us to evaluate our values, our professions, our lifestyles, and many of our choices. This might feel like a personal earthquake. The upside of this time is that it provides a great opportunity for creating a new you, a you that remembers why Your life is worth living.

Psychosis Therapists
What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?
The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?
People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?
Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?
It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
