My work as a therapist for the past 24 years has been focused on helping people uncover what is most authentic, naturally resourceful and vividly alive in each person. The stresses and traumas of living one's life can deaden our connection with ourselves and with those we love. Emotional suffering, isolation, addiction and crisis can be powerful gateways to a deeper foundation of self-acceptance, compassion and inner freedom. Learning to utilize proven tools for recognizing and transmuting pain into the ever deepening and changing experience of your life and relationships are the foundation of our work together.

Most of us are not born knowing how to navigate relationships, understand and manage our emotions or process our traumas. Many things throughout our life influence us and how we react and behave in different situations, however that doesn’t mean we can’t grow and develop as individuals. My goal is to help clients become confident in who they are through discovering their own self-worth and practicing self-compassion. We can work together to create a space where you can find the tools and support you are looking for during this period of your life.

I am glad you found me. I fuse Zen and Mindfullness techniques with core childhood work to create a unique, powerful healing approach. I understand what it is like to be saddened, anxious, or confused by life's experiences. We can't change our pasts, but we can change our beliefs and feelings about what our pasts meant. I use a unique approach of “explore, process, heal, challenge, reframe,” to work closely with my patients to help them develop awareness and create new possibilities, to redefine their history. I can help you move out of pain, depression, or anxiety, and create a new healthier and happier life. It's powerful

My passion is people. I have worked with individuals, couples and families for over 25 years. I learned early on that whether you are having trouble getting out of bed in the morning or feel like you'll never have the love in your life that you want, feeling heard, understood, and accepted is what opens the door to your new life. So my goal is not to change you into someone that you're not. My goal is for you to understand, accept and love yourself for who you truly are. That is where your power lives.

My ideal client is someone ready to meet themselves more deeply, often during times of transition—separation, career changes, shifting relationships, or evolving family dynamics. Beneath it all, they seek a safe space to exhale, reflect, and be without judgment. They want grounding, listening, and guidance as they slow down and make sense of life. Their goals include peace in their own skin, trust in themselves, healthier relationships, and resilience in challenges. They come to therapy sensing something needs to shift, seeking tools, support, and gentle guidance toward an authentic, empowered, and grounded life.

In life individuals and families will experience difficult and challenging events that lead to confusion, frustration, and grief. These emotions if not managed properly could interfere with one's ability to manage their personal and professional life in a healthy manner. My desire is to help find a "Renewed Hope" for your situation. I will walk along side you and your family, providing encouragement and guidance, as you work towards positive change and growth.

My name is Dr. Alisa Huntington, and I've been a licensed Marriage and Family therapist for 24 years. I love facilitating self-awareness and growth. I believe each individual has the tools to help him/her/themselves, they just might need a little guidance to unveil the layers. I see people who are depressed or anxious, questioning their sexual identity, in unhappy relationships, poor relationships with family members, adoptees or birth parents who have relinquished their child, and a variety of other issues.

I draw from trauma-informed, psychodynamic, somatic, and parts work modalities to support deep, lasting change.
You may be the one others rely on, capable, caring, and used to holding it all together. Yet inside, you feel disconnected from yourself, caught in self-doubt, anxiety, or a sense that something is “off.” You’re navigating life transitions such as career, motherhood, identity, relationships, grief, or healing from complex trauma and want space to explore your inner world and reconnect with your authentic self.

I can be eclectic but do emphasize cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to treatment.
One's thinking process and internal dialogue affect our emotions and behavior. I help individuals identify self-defeating thought patterns and substitute more realistic ways of thinking. I also encourage clients to review their past, learn some insights, and lessons, but focus is on the here-and-now, with active problem-solving and conflict resolution.

I believe one of the most important aspects of therapy is working with someone who truly understands—someone who has been there and can genuinely relate. I specialize in mental health and addiction, bringing both personal insight and professional experience to the work I do. We all deserve a space where we feel supported and connected. One of my favorite reminders is, “progress, not perfection.” Healing isn’t about getting everything right—it’s about showing up each day and taking steps forward, no matter how small. If you’re ready to begin that process, I invite you to reach out. I look forward to connecting with you.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
