Although friends and family mean well with their advice, it is often times biased and rooted in unhealthy dynamics seeking a quick fix; that is why it is beneficial to have an outsider’s perspective who can facilitate exploration from various angles by asking the right questions and empowering you to reach your own decisions and outcomes.
“We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the game.” -Randy Pausch Have you found yourself tired of your current situation thinking something has to change? Do you struggle knowing where to start or implementing changes that lead to long term success? I believe change and healing begin with awareness and like most things in life, a willingness to put in the time and effort for long term gain.

You want to achieve your goals and find joy in your life and relationships again. Let me be your guide and walk along side you on the path to healing. For some, that means having a space to process their thoughts and emotions, while others prefer a more clinical approach. I utilize research backed therapies in my practice including EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and the Gottman Method. Let's get started!

The healing process begins with choosing a therapist with whom you are comfortable. You may be overwhelmed by trying to manage problems, conflicts, personal performance, or transitions in your life, and find that the support of family and friends is not sufficient. My approach as a therapist is to provide a safe, supportive, and confidential environment, and to partner with my clients to not only alleviate the presenting symptoms, but also their underlying causes.

I have experience working with high acuity needs, domestic violence, family instability, complex trauma, self esteem, anxiety, depression, interpersonal issues, working through relationship dynamics.
I believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach and I strive to tailor a therapeutic approach to each individual’s needs in treatment. Therapy is not a sprint, but an ongoing process where the individual works to learn the necessary coping mechanisms to help them manage the the everyday stressors of life more effectively.

I also specialize in couples/ family therapy .
Do you have trouble with anxiety, depression, and relationship/ family issues due to trauma? Past experiences can create imprints onto your brain that activate your fight/flight responses whenever your emotions feel dysregulated, but life without the constant feeling of being on edge is possible. Those traumatic memories don’t have to permanently influence who you are meant to be. Through therapy, you will gain control of your feelings/thoughts and your response to everyday life hurdles. Healing from trauma can create healthier beliefs about yourself and your relationships along with sustainable changes.

In addition to devoting two decades to the mental health profession, I have a family of my own.
When you have tried to resolve issues on your own, and things just aren't changing, it is time to seek professional help. Perhaps your or your significant other's past and unresolved issues are what is creating the distress; an inability to trust, to feel joy and happiness, to pursue dreams. It is important to seek help early on so that things do not worsen. Whether you are seeking marriage counseling, individual therapy, or therapy for your teen, I can help you get on track to a healthier more fulfilling life.

I also use interventions based on family systems, behavioral, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to treatment.
I am a licensed psychologist. My work is based on the contemporary research in the areas of development, attachment, neuropsychology, and psychoanalysis. This research indicates that a therapeutic relationship can help rework a person's internal emotional world and cognitive capabilities. The growth in therapy allows individuals to engage in more genuine and intimate relationships with others and to see themselves differently. It helps them be more effective in school and at work. I use a compassionate, practical, relational, and researched approach to help clients achieve meaningful lasting change.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
