Life can be more challenging and painful than we would like it to be. Sometimes we feel stuck and confused, and may have a difficult time figuring out what to do next, or how to make things better. My hope is to support you through these challenging moments, and to help you process and move forward from these sources of pain. I work with a range of clients and issues, but am passionate about issues involving self-esteem,
relationship
issues, childhood trauma, depression, and anxiety. I gravitate towards working with adults and teens struggling to navigate the world and looking to develop a stronger sense of self.

My hope is to build a safe empathetic
relationship
with patients in which they feel understood.
I am a licensed psychologist. My work is based on the contemporary research in the areas of development, attachment, neuropsychology, and psychoanalysis. This research indicates that a therapeutic
relationship
can help rework a person's internal emotional world and cognitive capabilities. The growth in therapy allows individuals to engage in more genuine and intimate relationships with others and to see themselves differently. It helps them be more effective in school and at work. I use a compassionate, practical, relational, and researched approach to help clients achieve meaningful lasting change.

Life can be difficult. Often what we envisioned for ourselves is not matching the reality. We feel overwhelmed, sad, angry, we question ourselves and sometimes life itself. This can be lonely. A client and therapist
relationship
is key to creating a sense of comfort and trust for clients to open up, talk about their situation, discover their true thoughts and feelings, begin to heal, and feel empowered to handle whatever life puts before them.

If you are in a committed
relationship
that is stuck in painful patterns, I can help. If you are having sexual problems such as low sexual desire, I have particular experience and training that can help; even when the passion has been dormant for a long time. I have much experience with other
relationship
challenges as well such as healing after an affair. I love working with
couples
and look forward to helping them discover inner resources that can help in unexpected ways. Pain or divorce are not your only options. There are ways to be interpersonally creative. In addition, I am a certified EMDR therapist and use it often.

The healing process begins with choosing a therapist with whom you are comfortable. You may be overwhelmed by trying to manage problems, conflicts, personal performance, or transitions in your life, and find that the support of family and friends is not sufficient. My approach as a therapist is to provide a safe, supportive, and confidential environment, and to
partner
with my clients to not only alleviate the presenting symptoms, but also their underlying causes.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
