Some of the issues I help with are: depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss, substance abuse, relationship issues, familial conflict, sexual identity, mood disturbances, disturbances of personality, gambling, shopping & sex addiction, social issues and phobias, trichotillomania and body focused repetitive behavior disorders.
I do my best to keep an open mind and to create an environment that is conducive to fostering open communication and trust. I respect and value the thoughts and feelings of my client's. I believe that therapy is, ultimately, about freedom and that healing occurs through the process of self-exploration, understanding, finding meaning and deepening one's insight. I tend to work directly and dynamically, rather than passively; I do a lot of listening and I am also active in the therapeutic role.

Life can be painful and difficult. Intimate relationships can be particularly challenging if you don't have the communication skills needed to express your feelings and resolve conflicts effectively. This can lead to anger, resentment, fear and loneliness. Over time, intimacy and sexual connection will often suffer due to these feelings. Therapy can help you sort through and understand the challenges you're facing, and identify solutions that work for you. With the proper support, things can get better.

My clients are individuals and couples who feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. They experience anxiety, depression, and hopelessness as a result of the rut they're in, yet they fear change. My clients are introspective and want someone to walk beside them as they navigate a new path in life - whether they are feeling burned out in their career, struggling as new parents, navigating a separation, or recommitting to their relationship.

If you locate yourself within polyamorous, kinky, queer/trans, or anti-capitalist orientations, then you already know the ways normativity disciplines bodies, desires, and relationality. The costs of stepping outside dominant scripts are often high, especially when your modes of embodiment or intimacy are cast as deviant or disordered. At The Normative Exit Clinic, we recognize that “health” is not synonymous with “normal,” and that freedom is rarely granted—it must be authored. Living at the edges of what’s socially sanctioned isn’t a pathology; it’s often a deeply conscious and courageous stance.

Life sure can throw you some curveballs, can't it? If you're going through a difficult life transition, or just haven't been feeling quite like yourself lately, working with a therapist can help. It can be difficult to see your problems clearly and work through them effectively when you're "in the muck." I enjoy helping clients through difficult times, whether they are circumstantial or mood-related. I work primarily with adults who are experiencing depression or anxiety and couples with relational difficulties. I have specialized training treating trauma and working with entertainment industry professionals and creatives.

Life can be challenging, but you are not alone. You already made the first step, and I am here to guide you through the rest. One way is to separate myself from the societal restrictions, starting with my availability. The average person works M-F 8-5; but all of the resources one needs are also only available during those hours. Not everyone has the freedom to work around such restrictions. I decided I would not make it more difficult to get help. I offer early mornings, later evenings and some weekends too. Together, we can align ourselves and schedules around those traditional restrictions.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
