My theoretical approach varies on who I am working with in order to meet the need, however, some approaches that I tend to incorporate frequently are CBT, DBT, client-centered, mindfulness, and family systems.
I have an extensive history working with young kiddos and teens, as well as young adults struggling with substance use, depression, anxiety, and phases of life transitions. Challenges excite me, so just because I am not familiar, does not mean I am unwilling to learn and step out of my comfort zone, if appropriate.

Are you or your child struggling in school but unsure why? You’re not alone and I can help! I specialize in identifying learning strengths and areas of difficulty, then provide clear, practical recommendations so learning becomes more effective—and long-lasting. I work with clients of all ages and bring a teaching background that bridges the gap between evaluation and instruction, helping individuals understand how they learn best and how to apply that understanding in real life. I communicate findings in clear, accessible language to IEP teams while advocating for my clients to receive equitable, appropriate educational supports.

I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness in my practice.
I chose this field of work to promote and develop positive changes within families. I am passionate about creating an opportunity for those who have been silenced by the trials of life, to find their voice, deliver it in a respectful manner, and be heard. I feel strongly about supporting those who feel the need to develop self-care habits to get to where they want to be in life. My style of counseling is warm and interactive, and it is my greatest privilege to partner and collaborate with you to discover new perspectives. I believe individuals and families can find more productive and effective ways to deal with life situations.

A person enters therapy with a strong wish, whether conscious or unconscious, to overcome obstacles and free themselves from constraints that are holding them back. I find that each individual needs a slightly different approach to accomplish these goals, so I make technique adjustments for each case. I genuinely enjoy the experience of guiding my clients through this process and consider it a privilege to play such an important role in a person's life.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
