Rebecca is the founder of Brewing Hope Family Counseling. Do you feel stuck in patterns you can’t seem to think your way out of....overwhelmed, reactive, or disconnected from yourself? Maybe you’ve tried talk therapy, but something still feels unresolved. I support parents and adults in exploring attachment wounds that often show up as anxiety, depression, or ongoing stress. These patterns can make it hard to feel safe, close, or connected with the people who matter most. When experiences go unprocessed, they can live in the body and nervous system, shaping how you think, feel, and respond—often outside your awareness. If this resonates, let’s connect.

I utilize many tools from neuroscience, attachment theory, mindfulness techniques, EFT, EMDR, somatic techniques, family systems and couple's developmental models to help facilitate this very powerful unfolding and healing process.
My work as a therapist for the past 24 years has been focused on helping people uncover what is most authentic, naturally resourceful and vividly alive in each person. The stresses and traumas of living one's life can deaden our connection with ourselves and with those we love. Emotional suffering, isolation, addiction and crisis can be powerful gateways to a deeper foundation of self-acceptance, compassion and inner freedom. Learning to utilize proven tools for recognizing and transmuting pain into the ever deepening and changing experience of your life and relationships are the foundation of our work together.

We co-create a plan blending somatic awareness and existential inquiry, helping clients track bodily signals of alignment as guidance for choice.
Navigating periods of change and uncertainty can be deeply challenging. Many of the individuals who come to my practice are experiencing the stress, anxiety, and depression that often accompany these unpredictable times. They are seeking a safe, compassionate place to process these feelings, along with PTSD, major life transitions, and complex career shifts. They want to understand the fear-based patterns that uncertainty can trigger, but ultimately, they are looking to move beyond merely managing their symptoms. They are seeking the tools to find their footing, uncover authentic purpose, and create deep meaning in their lives.

My clients are often thoughtful, capable, high-functioning people who appear grounded on the outside but internally feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in overthinking, or disconnected from themselves. Many struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, relationship stress, people-pleasing, or emotional patterns they can recognize but still feel unable to shift. Together, we work on building self-trust, emotional clarity, healthier patterns, and a stronger connection to themselves and others.

To do this in session, we might utilize depth and process-oriented techniques from gestalt, somatic, mindfulness, and transpersonal traditions.
As it is with all of nature, it is our human nature to grow. To really live is a creative process, one that is sensitive and responsive to the world in which it emerges. In this way we are attuned and adaptable, and yet sometimes we forget. We find ourselves clinging to internalized messages about who and how we should be, and the confusion, doubt, worry, and fear that follow end up stalling, blocking, or dulling our capacity to flow in connection with our most authentic sense of who we are. Our true nature begins to feel very far away.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
