I have training in cognitive and psychodynamic therapies as well as DBT and
EMDR
.
The issue we all struggle with is how to remain present when our minds constantly are driven to anticipate and control an unmanageable future and keep a tight grip on an unbearable past (so that we are not overcome by it). When this dilemma becomes too much we lose trust, faith, and the use of intuition and begin to operate on fear, shame, and anger. This pattern is altered through someone making a “leap of faith” and trusting that someone can understand and see things through their eyes. This is what I consider to be the heart of my work and it typically means that change is happening before any other “intervention”.

I utilize a variety of evidenced based practices, such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (
EMDR
), Brainspotting, Equestrian Assisted Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy.
With the complexity of the human experience, individuals often need a place to process their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, beliefs, values, trauma, relationships, responsibilities, expectations, disappointments, roles, coping methods, development ect., and I feel privileged to meet clients where they are at in that process, and collaboratively identify where they would like to be. I have more than 16 years experience working with adolescents, adults, trauma, abuse, disassociation, depression, anxiety, panic, family conflicts, adjustments, grief, substance use, addiction, relationship violence, and sleep issues.

I utilize many tools from neuroscience, attachment theory, mindfulness techniques, EFT,
EMDR
, somatic techniques, family systems and couple's developmental models to help facilitate this very powerful unfolding and healing process.
My work as a therapist for the past 19 years has been focused on helping people uncover what is most authentic, naturally resourceful and vividly alive in each person. The stresses and traumas of living one's life can deaden our connection with ourselves and with those we love. Emotional suffering, isolation, addiction and crisis can be powerful gateways to a deeper foundation of self-acceptance, compassion and inner freedom. Learning to utilize proven tools for recognizing and transmuting pain into the ever deepening and changing experience of your life and relationships are the foundation of our work together.

If you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, depressed, or lost, know that you’re not alone. The past few years have brought rapid change, uncertainty, and loss for so many. I work with adults and teens who are facing mental health challenges relating to a variety of issues, including life transitions, anxiety and depression, relationships, grief and loss, self-esteem, careers, and schooling. My style is warm and compassionate but also honest and practical. I seek to address pressing symptoms while carefully exploring long-term, underlying patterns of belief, thought, and behavior that may be interfering with your current goals.

I think the most important aspect of therapy is someone who understands, who has been there, and who can relate. I treat mental health and addiction because I understand it personally and professionally. I feel like we all need space for support and the ability to connect with someone. My favorite saying is "progress, not perfection" this means we just get up and try daily. If you are ready to take some steps, reach out! I look forward to connecting.

My therapy sessions are conducted over the phone! It is so easy to get stuck in our past or lost in the future and we forget to be mindful of what is going on in the present. Our past can shape who we are and how we perceive our lives today and this can easily get us caught up in a vicious cycle of various emotional and mental struggles. The importance of rebuilding a relationship with ourselves is a critical component in life and can provide a different outlook to mood, behavioral and personality disorders. Let us never underestimate the power that we hold within ourselves!

I spent the a decade working in the addiction treatment industry. Working in that industry opened my eyes to the need for adequate trauma treatment so I became trained as an
EMDR
practitioner. In studying mind- body approaches to trauma, such as
EMDR
, I learned about the effectiveness of Eastern Practices such as Yoga, Tai Chi and Meditation in treating a range of psychological challenges.

EMDR Therapists
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an information processing therapy that helps clients cope with trauma, addictions, and phobias. During this treatment, the patient focuses on a specific thought, image, emotion, or sensation while simultaneously watching the therapist's finger or baton move in front of his or her eyes. The client is told to recognize what comes up for him/her when thinking of an image; then the client is told to let it go while doing bilateral stimulation.
