Telehealth Openings (In-person Waitlist). An amazing aspect of therapy is that it provides a unique opportunity for people to have a space where the focus is on their needs and growth. Few other spaces exist where your needs and well-being can be the priority. This is a key part of the healing power of therapy, which is why I believe it is so important you find a therapist who is a good fit for you. I work with clients who desire to learn more about their unique needs to function optimally and are open to trying new ways of thinking and coping to find healthier functioning. I love to support neurodivergent clients of all ages.

I have been a therapist since 1987. I see adults only, specializing in individual growth and development, work issues, couples’ connection issues and underlying child and adult trauma. I apply both psychological theories and practical life experience to understand what my client is experiencing from a psychological perspective. I consider what social pressures or situations impact your thinking/emotional states and what therapeutic approaches might be most helpful. I take into account the client's unique human diversity, personal development, and spirituality. Together, we select achievable goals and work toward those.

Sometimes it can feel like we're living on autopilot, just trying to survive. We live in a culture that makes it hard to slow down and pay attention to what's going on inside us, until we have no choice. I take a warm approach with couples, adolescents, and adults to examine what's beneath the surface using an integrative approach. I connect especially well with thoughtful, sensitive, and creative individuals who may feel disconnected from themselves, caught in patterns of overthinking and perfectionism, or uncertainty about where they belong.

I work best with college students, young professionals, adults, older adults and individuals navigating the transitions and challenges that come with different stages of life.
Hi, I'm Crystal and I believe therapy should be a space where you feel safe, supported, and accepted exactly as you are. My approach is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental, and I strive to create an environment where you can show up authentically, explore life's challenges, and build meaningful change at your own pace. As a mom of two, I understand the importance of balance, resilience, and self-care, especially during life's busiest and most demanding seasons. Outside of my work as a therapist, you'll often find me riding my motorcycle, spending time with my backyard chickens, or enjoying a little Disney magic.

Life can be amazing, exciting, difficult, painful, isolating, and anywhere in between. My focus as a clinician is treating trauma and trauma-related disorders. This includes the depression and anxiety that often cooccurs with trauma. I strongly believe that people can heal and can experience a life less defined by symptoms. Each person’s story is unique and I treat it as such. Trauma work takes as long as it takes. There is no set timeline. I would love to walk beside you through your story and support you in developing a life less defined by your trauma and more defined by your desires.

Life can be overwhelming and filled with challenges that leave us feeling stuck, anxious, or disconnected. You may be struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, or cultural identity conflicts, feeling like no one truly understands your experiences. Perhaps you long for deeper connections, greater self-acceptance, or healing from past wounds but don’t know where to start. I want you to know that you don’t have to navigate these struggles alone.

I understand how challenging it is to come to therapy and speak of subjects that can bring about fear, anxiety and feelings of being judged. Therapy is the safest of environments to bring up topics that have brought about great pain or arrest in one’s life. My hope for you is that therapy becomes a useful tool to transform your life into how you envision it to be. Life is too short not to be lived out to its fullest potential. By working with you, I hope to collaborate in a transformation process where life goals come to fruition.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
