My clinical training is in contemporary psychoanalysis, attachment theory, and mindfulness.
I am a licensed psychologist interested in helping others heal emotional trauma and live more gracefully. I specialize in treating extensive sadness and anxiety, perfectionism and work conflicts, life transitions, relationship issues, spiritual/existential crises and unresolved grief. Though I provide important psychological tools and practical steps to get better, my work also quarries deep to the heart of the problem, identifying the painful pattern at its root. I believe that by intently listening here to the essential disappointments and losses suffered, we can finally become more ourselves, and life can improve substantially.

My goal as a therapist is to help my clients learn how to effectively manage anxiety and stress, decrease depression, support positive life transitions, improve social connections, and build effective parenting skills. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, combined with Mindfulness, Psychodynamic, and Client-Centered therapy techniques to help clients navigate the challenges they face. This allows my clients to learn from their life experiences, understand the impacts of their current patterns and decision making, and explore and develop new ways of thinking and acting.

I integrate traditional talk therapy with mindfulness, somatic (body-based) techniques, guided imagery, parts work, inner child work, and other experiential modalities.
Are you going through a major change in your life? Maybe you feel anxious, lost, or stressed while wishing for clarity, confidence, and support. Therapy is a safe space for us to get to the root of what's going on, so you can move through the stuckness and challenge, and show up as your authentic self in life. I'll help you navigate difficult life experiences, learn self-care tools, communicate effectively, make sense of conflicting feelings, and cultivate a deeper connection with yourself and others.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) takes healing to a deeper level. Combined with 'top-down' approaches, SE helps identify strengths and intentions beneath painful survival patterns. Shame, fear and anger transform into vital life energy. Surviving becomes thriving. As a private practice psychotherapist based in SF & Marin for several years, I was fortunate to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. During the pandemic, my practice shifted to primarily virtual.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
