When working with clients healing from eating disorders or trauma, I work through the lens of hearing their story both verbally and through somatic therapy.
Making the choice to come to therapy requires an incredible amount of courage. From the first interaction I hope to convey my deep respect for choosing to look at the parts of ourselves that are not working. Exploring what has you stuck can seem daunting and frustrating. My viewpoint of clients, is that they are strong, capable and willing to engage with themselves from a perspective of learning and growth. Therapy allows for us to heal in the context of a relationship, allowing for the creation of new narratives about our ability to trust, connect, and give and receive care.

I draw from Psychodynamic, CBT, Humanistic, Somatic Therapies, and incorporate mindfulness practice to help you discover how to become more present and connected to your mind, body and spirit.
Beginning therapy can be overwhelming, so I applaud you for starting this journey. I believe the core of therapy is developing a trusting, nonjudgemental therapeutic relationship. I am a queer, non-binary LCSW with a masters from CSUN. Having an open world view, I have the experience to help you explore how your individual history, along with larger systemic issues relate to how you operate in the world today. I welcome the opportunity for us to speak to determine if we are a good fit.

We can work together to cultivate trauma recovery using techniques including polyvagal theory, mindfulness meditation, somatic psychology, and CBT.
Are you struggling with anxiety and trauma and turning towards unhealthy coping mechanisms in an attempt to manage your emotions? Now is a trying time for almost everyone, and if you have a trauma background what's coming up in the current environment may be reminiscent of the stress, isolation, and fear induced by early childhood experiences. You don't have to handle this alone, and with clinically tested techniques to regulate the mind and body, it's possible to shift from a place of disempowerment to strength.

Do you often find yourself in relationships where your deepest needs are not met? If these questions resonate with you, know that you’re not alone. I’m passionate about working with individuals who had difficult childhoods. I am trained in Somatic Psychotherapy, and work with a feminist, kink and sex positive lens.
Life is hard, even when it's going well. And then there are the times that it isn't going well, and we need to expand our network of care. Therapy is a helpful process in both times of life. I work to connect with you, follow your needs, support you in the growth and transformation you crave, and help you through the discomfort that change can bring. I believe in the closeness of dualities, such as trauma and resilience, crying and laughing, masculine and feminine, and seeking ways to get these dualities into a closer and more symbiotic relationship with one another.

As a Level II Certified Sensorimotor therapist, I have learned about the wisdom of the body in processing trauma and childhood wounds, as well as serving as a source of healing and creativity. In addition to “bottom-up” somatic processing, I integrate "top-down," evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Designed to challenge rigid, limiting, and habitual thinking patterns, I help people respond mindfully to the present moment, with meaningful, core values as the guide.

I use both talk therapy and somatic and mindfulness based approaches to help people become more fully embodied.
My goal as a psychologist is to help you realize your best possible self. I focus on helping people build skills and capabilities in order to live happy, meaningful and successful lives. In our fast paced, productivity obsessed culture, it's easy to get off track and one day wake up to realize you're not living the life you wanted. There are so many forces at work on us, including systemic oppressions and their effects (fear, anger, perfectionism, self-judgement, imposter syndrome, etc). Therapy can be a bolster and a support - a means to explore values and goals, reconnect with your best self and create the life you want.

I enjoy working with pre-teens, teens, adults and families through somatic awareness, art and talk therapies to gain insight and resources to manage their experiences and work toward positive changes in their lives.
I don't believe that struggling is weak or wrong, it allows us to grow into stronger and more capable people. I think that there are some experiences that hit us a little harder than others and have us needing some support along the way, everyone has conflict and difficulty in their lives at one time or another. I also believe that our emotional challenges can affect our physical experience through anxiety symptoms, chronic pain, exhaustion and difficulty sleeping as well as in other ways.

I'm qualified to help with many challenges, but specialize in using Depth/Jungian and somatic approaches for couples, artists/creatives, spiritual/existential issues, trauma, grief, and dream analysis.
Are you feeling disconnected? Uninspired, unfulfilled, lost, or detached? Are you or your loved ones repeating behaviors, relationships, or situations, and wishing you could break the cycle? Maybe little things feel more frustrating or tiring than usual. Sometimes, we aren't sure what causes our distress, but we can sense we're not reaching our potential for health, happiness, or success. And even when we know the cause, change can still feel impossible. That's where I come in. My job is to listen, help you understand the root causes of your difficulties, break unwanted patterns, & teach you practical tools to help change your life.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
