I've spent the last 10 years working with & relating to young adults (18-35) and helping them through problems from substance use to depression and
anxiety
.
Are you looking for a therapist that feels relatable and like a real person? If you're anything like I was when I first saw a therapist as a young adult, you crave that authenticity from your counselor. I promise to never ask you "and how does that make you feel?" with a straight face. Don't get me wrong, I *will* ask about your feelings, but I'm not into going through the motions and acting a role. Do you want to spend the time and effort it takes to get down past surface symptoms to the real deep work, to be able to live more comfortably in your own skin, to be able to feel your emotions, not just think them? If so, contact me.

Deciding to work with a therapist is a big step, often accompanied by feelings of uncertainty about what to expect. To begin, I'll ask questions and listen carefully as you tell me about yourself. Together, we can begin to understand how things are, how they got to be that way, how you've been managing, and in what ways you'd like things to be different. Once I have a sense of who you are and what you want, I will be a committed and caring collaborator on your journey.

I also offer Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, movement and creative arts therapies for stress, trauma,

and depression.
Making the choice to come to therapy requires an incredible amount of courage. From the first interaction I hope to convey my deep respect for choosing to look at the parts of ourselves that are not working. Exploring what has you stuck can seem daunting and frustrating. My viewpoint of clients, is that they are strong, capable and willing to engage with themselves from a perspective of learning and growth. Therapy allows for us to heal in the context of a relationship, allowing for the creation of new narratives about our ability to trust, connect, and give and receive care.

One of the best things my dad ever said to me was: Unless you believe in reincarnation, it’s time to be happy now. (Personally, I think this applies even if you do believe in reincarnation.) How to make the most of our time, our relationships, and ourselves - for me, these are the key questions that led me to become a marriage and family therapist. Along with traditional talk therapy, I use EMDR (if desired) to help you work through present challenges and past difficult experiences so that you can live more freely in the here and now - unencumbered by old self-defeating beliefs and
fears

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
