These skills helped me immensely after living through high
trauma
with my own son with drugs and stay in juvenile hall.
I invite people to be curious about their brains, to understand why they do, how they think! Addicted? Anxious? Angry? A relationship in trouble? All are about the brain. Learning about the amygdala and how it is connected to the rest of the brain, the alert it keeps us at, has everything to do with learning about doing life differently from here forward. Learning how visceral tension response on the body is a clue to what is going on in the mind, gives a sense of control in any situation, giving the balance between frontal lobe executive thinking and limbic system emotional reactivity.

As a LMFT and TBRI Pracitioner, I have learned that many children, families, and individuals suffer from
trauma
. Often client's diagnosis of
PTSD
, Anxiety, Depression, Bi-Polar, and ADHD are related to early childhood and adult
trauma
, as well as a lack of early secure attachment to their primary caregiver. Recent studies in Neuroscience confirm that Neuropathways in the brain develop based on these traumas.

Life is full of wonder & beauty, as well as pain & heartbreak. Sometimes, & often, we go through life learning to hide parts of ourselves that have felt rejected, abandoned, hurt & so on. We learn to only give comfort and attention to parts of ourselves that have felt loved, happiness, and understanding. What we often don’t notice is how ignoring parts of ourselves that have felt pain can cause feelings of sadness, worry,
trauma
, low self-esteem, & much more. Often, we notice how our emotions, our thoughts, and our bodies react to certain situations that trigger those hidden parts to resurface, & then struggle with coping.

trauma

Even the hardiest hero needs a guide. Struggles with mental health often leave us feeling alone and hopeless. We'll often wander searching for help and healing. That journey doesn't need to be walked alone. Let me join you along that journey of discovery to help you find that inner strength and tap into the wisdom of your body to level up. I use a variety of techniques to help you hone the magic that is within you. I use a combination of EMDR, DBT, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to unleash your creative strength to help you on that journey to be your best you.

My name is Veronica and I speak English & Spanish. Most people can benefit from counseling at some point in their lives. It may be your time to engage in either 'short or long term' counseling if you are struggling in some way. Counseling can help you get on with your life and re-establish your faith, goals, dreams, passions and relationships; and counseling is even for those with a strong support system and no diagnosable mental health condition.

I am an EMDR,
trauma
informed, therapist, and I specialize in the treatment of adults who experience anxiety, depression and
trauma
so they can let go of the past and be the person they want to be.
What if you could get off the roller emotional coaster? Does it feel like your emotions are all over the place? You have big reactions when doing everyday things-like talking with your spouse, friends, people at work, taking the kids to the store. It always goes the same way. Your emotions get the best of you. You feel out of touch with who you really are and how you want your life to be. You feel on edge and notice that overwhelm is just a situation, interaction or comment away. You notice this keeps happening but you’re not sure what do about it? This is not who you want to be.

There is this absolute sacred moment in therapy that happens usually right after I hear “I’ve never told anyone this before…” or “I’ve never been able to say this out loud to anyone…” It’s this vulnerable and courageous moment by the client in which the therapist is asked to compassionately both hear and hold their pains. In that moment, I believe is where transformation begins for a client. I also believe that as humans we are in a constant state of evolvement and having support through some of those processes can be invaluable to finding one's life purpose or meaning. I offer both in person and virtual sessions.

Are you in need of healing from past traumas and old patterns that are keeping you from experiencing the life you deserve? I believe inside all of us there is an unharmable part that is our true-self. I see myself as a guide in the healing process, directing you back to your true-self, that often gets buried under cultural conditioning, other’s opinions, and inaccurate conclusions you drew as a child that became an unconscious belief system. I specialize in healing
trauma
, addiction, anxiety, and depression. I enjoy helping my clients regain a sense of empowerment by healing the past, allowing for an abundant and fulfilling future.

We often find ourselves members of "clubs" we never signed up for. Unexpected "club" memberships might include living with anxiety, complex
ptsd
/
ptsd
, divorce, single parenting, the challenges of fostering or adopting, loss of a loved one, on and on. Isolation and shame are common while navigating these "club memberships." My clients are tired of being tired, ready to move from paralysis to growth, and desperate for hope and healing. They want to believe they are worthy of love, hold intrinsic value, and have something positive to bring to the world. They want positive life change and healthy relationships with self and others.

I specialize in working with children and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and difficulties related to relationships, behaviors, and
trauma
. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I have worked with clients ranging from age 5 to 65. I hold a strong belief that all individuals have resiliency in their core, and are capable of taking control over their own lives. I understand that taking the leap to begin therapy can be scary and uncertain. I believe that it is important to meet clients where they are and help to gain a deeper understanding of the areas in life that have lead to a feeling of being stuck or lost.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
