Most couples don't come to therapy because they've stopped loving each other. They come because they've stopped feeling understood. Maybe every conversation turns into the same argument. Maybe trust has been broken. Maybe you've begun feeling more like roommates than partners. Or perhaps life simply got busy, and somewhere along the way, your connection faded. I specialize in helping couples rebuild communication, repair trust, deepen intimacy, and strengthen the relationship you've worked so hard to build—whether you're dating, engaged, married, or in a consensually non-monogamous relationship.

I love human beings & believe the human brain and emotional system miraculously navigate life & trauma with the tools we have at hand. My approach is to first stabilize during times when buttons (triggers) are being pushed, then work together to learn why those buttons exist, and, when ready, work towards minimizing or eliminating them altogether. I listen with compassion and curiosity, asking questions in a place of safety to help my clients find the answers that lie within. I want to journey with you to a place where you can be fully honest, fully free of shame, and fully yourself.

I see therapy as a journey towards an authentic and meaningful life. There are many reasons to use therapy as a tool to move your life onto its best course. Often a crisis forces your hand and you know you can't take the next steps alone. Any major life change in family, relationships, work, or health could be the reason for seeking help. Therapy may also be the right choice when long-standing feelings of anxiety, unhappiness or shame have blocked your path. When our work together ends you will have confidence that your life is in healthy balance.

I believe therapy is a space where you can safely explore who you are without pressure to mask, perform, or fit into expectations that were never meant for you. Many people come to therapy feeling exhausted from trying to hold everything together, navigating grief, trauma, identity, chronic illness, or burnout, and feel unseen or misunderstood. You may want clarity, relief, connection, stability, or simply to feel like yourself again. You may be searching for meaning after painful experiences, wanting to rebuild trust in your own mind and body, or working toward creating a life that feels authentic.

Life can be wonderful & harmonious, & it can also be complicated. Often times, we go through life learning to hide parts of ourselves that have felt criticism, fear & other difficult emotions (rejection, hurt, etc.). We learn to ignore those difficult parts of ourselves due to shame & guilt, which can lead to sadness, worry, low self-esteem, trauma, and so on. These emotions & hurts can also affect the relationships around us (romantic, friendships, work, etc.), causing deeper pain & rejection. We notice our emotions, mind, & body’s reaction to situations that cause these parts to resurface & then struggle to cope.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Therapists
Why might an individual want to see a therapist specializing in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?
A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialize in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.

When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counseling?
Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?
No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counseling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.

How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?
Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
