The relationship you have with your therapist is the biggest factor contributing to positive outcomes in therapy. Establishing a relationship built on mutual trust and respect is the first step in the journey towards health. I work with children and adults to establish this relationship from the very beginning. My goal is to create an experience for children and adults that allows you to connect with your sense of self and who you are, express those feelings and needs that are often hidden away, and realize the potential for growth inside each of us.

The art to healing is finding what tools you respond well to.
So you're looking for a therapist? Whether you choose me or somebody else, please keep looking until you have found the right fit-somebody that you connect with and can be yourself around. The biggest hurdle is finding someone you like who also takes your insurance or has a rate you can afford.
It's okay if you don't know what your goals are (for therapy or for life)... or if you're unsure if therapy will even be helpful.
I love working with clients who feel stuck or "in a rut" or are in between marriages, careers, etc. I have lots of experience in working with teens and adults with addiction, trauma, and mood disorders

Getting started on your healing journey can feel daunting, but with the support of a therapist like myself, it doesn't have to be. I provide a safe and supportive space where you can express yourself freely, and over time, the process can begin to feel natural, and maybe even enjoyable. I believe in creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where healing, growth, and self-discovery can unfold.

Play, sand, and art are some tools that we will use to learn regulation strategies and express emotions in more adaptive ways.
Does parenting your child feel overwhelming? Does he seem to have tantrums over everything? Maybe your child is aggressive at home or school and you don’t know why. Is there some anxiety, loss, or trauma? Have your tried everything and nothing is working? Parenting is difficult and your child’s negative behaviors may make you feel like you are not doing a good job. Therapy can not only help your child manage whatever stressors are causing his or her outbursts, but it can also help you understand how to help your child when he or she is overwhelmed. You are not alone on this parenting journey and I can help.

I earned my PsyD degree from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, where I trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches. I've had the privilege of working with first responders, veterans, active-duty service members, and individuals on the autism spectrum. Before psychology, I played club baseball at San Jose State University and even worked as a children's party clown part-time. When I'm not working, you'll find me at Dodger Stadium, golfing, mountain biking, or dodging banana peels in Mario Kart. Let me help you navigate life's banana peels.

Greetings! My name is Natasha Qualls, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. Relationships are a vital part of our day-to-day lives as they provide a sense of connection, security, and overall happiness. However, the relationship with self, the understanding of who you are, and your place in life is crucial. The style I take as a therapist is a client-centered and strength-based approach as I believe and learned for myself that all of the answers, lie within the individual. That's how powerful you are!

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
