I believe it is important to understand an individual's complex history including attachments, trauma, and the positives, and use this information to comprehend why a person has come to be who they are, and their cognitive processes.
I have years of experience working with clients with diagnoses of depression, anxiety, and trauma, as well as working with neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ clients. I have supported clients in understanding why they are experiencing their symptoms, what skills they need and what skills work for that specific individual, and encourage them to utilize their learned skills in order to improve their symptoms and overall functioning.

As a mental health crisis responder with 10+ years of direct experience, my technique is honed to quickly build a functional dynamic and work collaboratively to dial into the core problem. Results driven; I believe every minute of our time counts, so you can expect a style that is direct, concise, gimmick-free, and with no frills to interfere with the authenticity of our exchange. While I am trained and certified in several evidence-based practices, it is ultimately my job to support your path to self-mastery by asking the right questions and deferring to you as the expert on the situation, your life, and your choices.

Clients often tell me they leave sessions feeling better because they finally have an understanding of what is happening inside of them and how to best move forward with the different obstacles they are facing. They essentially say, they feel “unstuck.” I love working with teens and adults. I aim to guide individuals in exploring their internal system, comprised of different parts that influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Have you ever said, “Well, a part of me thinks this, but another part thinks that?” It’s true that often we can see several sides to an issue.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 18 years of experience. I see children, adolescents, and adults in individual therapy who are struggling with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, life cycle challenges, trauma/abuse and many more. People cope with and try to manage their past and present to the best of their ability. However, at times it can be overwhelming and may also create additional barriers as people often outgrow their coping skills, or their skills and tools are simply no longer working for them.

I have over 20 year’s experience as a family therapist and educator. I also draw on my own years of experience in mindfulness meditation, and somatic approaches to wholeness and learning.  Facing and working through my own difficult life transitions has given me wisdom and changed my life. I believe we all have this capacity for positive change.

I integrate evidence-based methods including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Trauma-Informed Care and starting to learn EMDR.
I see clients virtually in California and Oregon. If you feel stuck in painful relationship patterns, overwhelmed by conflict, or carrying the weight of past trauma, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I specialize in working with high-conflict couples, emotionally disconnected partners, and adults healing from childhood or adult trauma. Many of my clients struggle with anxious or avoidant attachment, repeated arguments that never feel resolved, or a deep sense of loneliness even while in a relationship. Others come to therapy feeling emotionally exhausted, shut down, or unsure how to trust themselves or others again.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists
How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?
Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
