Your life feels exhausting, and you don’t know how to make a change or how to find relief. Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, depressed, or stuck. You want to understand your reactions, strengthen your relationships, and feel more present in your day-to-day life. We so often internalize the message that we have to do it all alone, but that is just not true. We are social beings and were never meant to navigate this chaotic, confusing life alone. Through compassion and reflective listening, I aim to inspire clients to let go of self-doubt and limiting beliefs and reconnect with their most authentic selves.

Twenty-two years ago I cured my own chronic back, neck, shoulder and hip pain using Dr.
I work with my clients to uncover and identify the hidden emotions that have gotten directed into physical pain and are keeping your nervous system on high alert. It's important to work with a therapist who understands and is familiar with the idea of repressed emotional pain causing physical symptoms vs. just helping you to "manage" your symptoms.

You ask, “Why does my life feel so hard?” Anxiety and depression follow you like constant companions. Even after all the hard work you’ve done on yourself, you wonder why you still don’t feel better. Those familiar voices in your head — “You’re not good enough,” “No one cares” — start shouting again. You feel certain that others will see through your “imposter syndrome,” get annoyed, and eventually walk away. You spend most of your time meeting everyone else’s needs. Sometimes it’s a welcome distraction, but more and more, you feel invisible to the people closest to you.

Are you afraid, confused, or struggling with your relationships? I work with client(s) dealing with interpersonal issues and communication challenges. It may be a husband and wife re-defining their roles with life changes, or an individual considering a career change. The problem often reveals itself at the surface when arguing and verbal conflict ensue, but the source of the problem needs a deeper adjustment, such as adjusting roles or providing more support for a family member. Regardless, clear communication usually allows the individual, couple, or family to achieve the goal of collaboration and compromise.

On the outside, you’re capable and dependable. On the inside, your mind rarely slows down. You replay conversations, anticipate what’s next, and hold yourself to high standards. By the time your head hits the pillow, your body is exhausted but your brain is “on.” Sleep becomes restless, short, or hard to trust. I work with high-achieving adults navigating sleep difficulties, anxiety, perfectionism, and trauma-related stress. You’re ready to stop "trying" to sleep and start resolving the patterns keeping you awake so you can return to a version of yourself that feels steady, energized, and in control.

I help people with issues like anxiety, depression, addiction, chronic pain, divorce, and LGBTQIA+ issues.
I am direct and honest. I enjoy working with clients who take my many suggestions and ideas and distill them into a strategy that is individualized and appropriate. When I offer ideas, the client needs to be able to say "wow, what a great idea, I'll try it," or "that's the stupidest thing I ever heard, what else have you got?"

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
