I’m a licensed therapist ready to meet you where you are at in life. I can help you process traumatic experiences as well as navigate frustrating systems we all encounter that are supposed to help, but at times seem to do more harm than good. I have supported many clients in responding to crises, such as supporting families through a divorce or death, and creating a safety plan in response to the experience of suicidal ideation. If your child is struggling at home or school, I am trained in several parenting approaches, have three kids of my own, and have extensive experience providing services in schools.

“Change Your Thoughts and You’ll Change Your World”. My goal is to offer and provide support within the therapeutic relationship that allows for you to gain insight on discovering your needs. I believe everyone needs support but struggles with how to ask for help. In my practices I provide the time and space for you to feel heard, supported, and most importantly I provide empathy. Empathy is a powerful word as it defines the ability to sense other people’s emotions, coupled with the ability to imagine what someone might be thinking or feeling. I always try to create a warm, heartening, and empathetic environment with every client.

Ever wonder why life changes just when you thought is just about "normal" or approaching "great"? Have you or a loved one been confused and discouraged for too long? Puzzled and dissatisfied about a relationship: spouse, parent , child, sibling, significant other or friend? Want things to change? All these questions and more can be addressed in therapy. Crisis and challenges are "opportunities for growth" and God is more creative than you can imagine in moving you toward being the person you were meant to be . Together, there is much we can discover.

Having worked with children in play and sand tray therapy for many years I can be most helpful in consultation regarding behavioral issues with your child; plus with family interactions that need assistance in a collaborative manner such as the need to sort our marital issues from parenting issues.
I can offer you both short-term therapy or longer term therapy to address marital, couples, family, or individual concerns. Together with assessment of your presenting problem we can decide what is best. Resolution and change is possible. I have experience working with adults with adult children issues and with couples in getting beyond repeating communication patterns that are stressful.

I also have personal experience of parenting neurodivergent children (special needs) and being a caregiver.
It's exhausting to feel overwhelmed! Some days it feels like one more thing will push you over the edge. While you know that the constant state of stress is not healthy, you don't know what other options you have with everything that's on your plate. It could be from the stress of parenting , being a caregiver for a loved one, or just a life that feels unmanageable. It often feels impossible to appreciate or enjoy what you have because you are stuck with too much to handle on any given day. You know there's another way, but you haven't been able to consistently get there. You are frustrated and tired of feeling this way.

I specialize in working with individuals who are looking to do deep inner work. The kind of work that takes time to unearth and courage to approach. Many of the individuals whom I have had the privilege to walk with on their healing journey were facing things like depression, anxiety, life transitions, chronic pain, parenting difficulties and trauma. I am trained in EMDR and tend to use this with most clients. My intent is to provide a safe and non-threatening space to explore difficult histories. To process stories we carry with us and to teach you how to let go of the painful feelings that have followed you throughout your life.

I am a parent and a member of local communities, so I understand on a personal level too, the stressors youth, families, and parents are facing here and can address them realistically.
Life is about relationships-with people, food, money, work, activities, expectations. Relationships can get complicated or even destructive, and support, encouragement and advice can mean a successful transition through difficult times. In our fast moving world, there are many stressors that get in the way of achieving the happiness we desire, resulting in negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I have 20+ years of experience assisting youth, adults, families and couples overcome these struggles. Most clients would describe me as easy-going and friendly, and I am focused on creating a treatment experience that fits you as a unique client.

Being a parent is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding roles we enter into with little to no training or education, other than what we have observed growing up. As parents we feel pressure that we should know how to handle any challenges we encounter along the way and be successful in each moment. This is a heavy expectation we put on ourselves as parents and not realistic! Being a teen or young adult growing up in this complex digital world comes with its own pressures and challenges that are new and overwhelming at times. Learning helpful strategies and processing experiences can go a long way in a safe, supportive space.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
