Being a woman or girl today has gotten increasingly complex! You were raised to believe what you were told. Your parents told you one thing. Your friends another. Throw in societal expectations and the media..? And now you want something more fulfilling. More fun. More…you! You’re afraid of being labeled. The people you date are the ones you are “supposed to,” not who you want. Maybe sex has been painful or unfulfilling and you want to understand why. Your sexual self is yours alone. But how do you sort your truth from everyone else’s? You want something different, but you are not sure how to talk about it.

Are you feeling stuck in your relationship, trying everything you can but ending up in the same painful patterns? Or are you worried about your teen, sensing something is off but not sure how to reach her? I work especially with women who are deeply invested in their relationships but feel emotionally exhausted, and teens who are struggling. When you are so close to the situation, it can be difficult to see clearly or know what will actually help. Therapy offers a space to slow down and understand what is happening, so you can move forward with a better sense of your next steps.

My ideal clients are adults who feel weighed down by depression, anxiety, grief, or stress and are ready to start moving toward something better. Parents navigating the emotional demands of growing families are also a natural fit for my practice. Together we work to understand what has been keeping you stuck and build practical, lasting change through small, intentional steps. My goal is to help you create a life with more balance, joy, and peace.

Many clients come to me feeling lost, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves and/or others. You're the one everyone turns to. The one who holds everything together, no matter what. But underneath the calm, you're managing constant self-doubt, tension, and overthinking. You push to achieve, to please, to get it just right, always hoping it will finally feel like enough. And yet it never does. You're exhausted, disconnected, and not sure how to truly rest. You don't have to keep holding it all together alone.

You’re feeling burnt out & overwhelmed. You want to create a sustainable life for yourself but aren’t sure where to start. You crave feeling calm and grounded when the world around you feels chaotic. You’ve been so dysregulated it feels like all your energy is going into survival. You want to be connected with your authentic self, but you’ve been people pleasing for so long you don’t know how to honor your own needs. You’re tired of saying yes when you wish you could say no, and want to cultivate the confidence and inner strength it takes to set boundaries. You’re worried it’ll never get any easier & want someone who really gets it.

Have you experienced betrayal or harm from your church or religious community? Have you been left to pick up the pieces by yourself? You are not alone. I work with adults who have experienced painful childhoods, relational abuse and religious trauma. These traumatic events often lead to perfectionism, anxiety, excessive guilt, people pleasing, depression, difficulties with self-care, poor boundaries, emotional disconnection or overwhelming emotions. The good news - it doesn't always have to be this way.

My ideal client is ambitious, capable, and ready for more, but feels stuck between where they are and where they know they could be. They’re juggling too many priorities, second-guessing key decisions, and frustrated by inconsistent results. They don’t lack intelligence or drive; they lack clarity, structure, and a focused path forward. They want momentum, confidence, and a strategy that actually works. They want to feel in control.

Does your life look like it's working from the outside: you're the capable, accomplished, person people rely on...yet inside it feels like you're constantly behind, ready to fall apart, or you're unsure if you're ever doing "enough"? Slowing down feels uncomfortable, & setting boundaries feels risky, yet constantly being on the go is taking its toll. Especially as women, societal pressures can feel so heavy. Any early childhood trauma may have taught you that love depended on keeping the peace or staying productive. Those patterns can shape how we respond in the present, but if you're here, you might be ready for a change.

FAQ - PMDD Counseling
How can Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) affect mental health?
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) can have a significant impact on mental health. PMDD is a more severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and may cause intense mood-related symptoms in the days or weeks before a period, such as mood swings, irritability, anxiety, sadness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in activities you normally enjoy. For some people, PMDD can also worsen existing mental health concerns, such as anxiety or depression. Symptoms may also affect relationships, work, or school responsibilities, especially when they happen consistently month after month.

How can therapy help with PMDD?
Therapy can help you better understand the emotional patterns that may come with PMDD and help you track symptoms across your cycle, identify triggers, and plan ahead for times when symptoms tend to peak. Therapy may also help you develop coping strategies for managing intense emotions, communicating with loved ones, and reducing the impact PMDD has on work, school, or relationships. Approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be especially helpful for noticing unhelpful thought patterns and building more practical coping skills for responding to distress. PMDD is also commonly treated with medication or hormonal options, so a therapist may encourage you to coordinate with a medical provider if they feel this may be a helpful addition to therapy.

Can a therapist diagnose PMDD?
In many cases, licensed mental health professionals, including therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists, can diagnose PMDD. PMDD can also be diagnosed by other medical professionals, such as a primary care physicians (PCPs) or obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYNs).

Should I see a therapist or a psychiatrist to help with PMDD?
Whether you should see a therapist or psychiatrist depends on what kind of support you need. A therapist can help with coping skills, emotional regulation, and general patterns of thinking that may make symptoms harder to manage. A psychiatrist, in contrast, can help assess whether medication may be helpful and prescribe it, when appropriate. Importantly, many people benefit from both therapy and psychiatry. For example, you might see a therapist for ongoing emotional support and a psychiatrist for medication or medical treatment. If you are not sure where to start, your primary care physician can often help you decide what treatment makes the most sense for you.
