My work focuses on helping people find more understanding and fulfillment in themselves and their relationships. I often work with those suffering with shame,
trauma
, repressed emotions, and relational conflict. I enjoy facilitating with couples, individuals, and families by way of practical approaches, a non-judgmental ear, and perspective-lending observation. I believe precise language and nonverbal communication can be hugely impactful on relationships. Having a safe place to reflect on and identify your personal and relational dynamics can lead to more awareness, skills, and peace in your life.

I have grown a particular passion to work with those struggling with eating disorders,
trauma
, and life transitions.
There are times in our lives when we feel like things are falling apart. But what if they were actually falling into place? In a safe and caring space, and with compassion and grace, we could explore those areas of your life that have made it difficult (and sometimes impossible) to experience hope, peace, or purpose. Whether we go on a journey to explore your past to heal wounds or remain focused in the present, together we can discover the path forward.

I believe substance use to be a symptom and not the root issue, but without first addressing and treating addiction we will not be able to intervene the underlying issues. There is an array of individuals and families that I enjoy working with. Teens, young adults and their families, adults and or partners/spouses who need support around their loved ones addiction and also with parents whos children are struggling with addiction. My approach to treatment is
trauma
and attachment informed because I believe that most addiction is driven by
trauma
and a lack of a healthy relationship with ones self.

I use a
trauma

Wouldn’t it be nice if life felt like taking a well-traveled path – full of signs, directions and even tour guides to help us when we get lost? For many of us, life does not feel that way; it can even feel like we took a wrong turn along the way, and suddenly we are on a cliff-edged trail that is getting narrower and narrower. When we experience chronic stress – whether it be from
trauma
, relational issues, anxiety, depression or even sensitivity – life can feel hard. As pressure mounts, we can find ourselves reacting to daily experiences through outbursts of emotion, impulsivity, agitation or even numbing out.

It is common for difficult emotions, stressful relationships, and
trauma
to keep us stuck in unhealthy patterns.
Have you noticed yourself feeling stuck, hopeless or disconnected from the rest of the world? Too often we believe that the feelings of depression, anxiety, or the symptoms of
trauma
we've experienced are just part of life, something we have to put up with. For fear of being a “burden” or being judged for our experiences and feelings, we avoid discussing our problems with others. We may wish to grow or heal but are unsure of where or how to begin when we feel overwhelmed with what life has thrown at us. Life does not have to continue this way, there is hope.

I work with people experiencing phase of life hurdles, parent/marital conflict,
post-traumatic stress
, eating disorders, & depression and anxiety.
It is often when we feel the most overwhelmed __ when we have "tried everything we know" to feel better, to make changes, to break out of bad habits or unhelpful behavior patterns __ that we find ourselves the most open to growth and change. This is the purpose of psychotherapy. To provide us with the opportunity to open to the process of self-discovery __ to explore our thoughts, our feelings, and our behaviors and to find or regain our essential wholeness and sense of well-being.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
