I have strong background in cultural diversity, feminism and my graduate studies focused on LGBTQIA + affirmative psychotherapy.
I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking a deeper awareness of their past, in order to understand themselves in the present and thrive in the future. I strive to create trusting relationships with my clients that allow us to work together collaboratively. I typically help clients with relational issues, depression, anxiety, life transitions and trauma. I utilize a LGBTQIA + affirmative lens and fuse together a psychodynamic approach and when appropriate Attachment Focused EMDR to target traumas. I have also completed the level 1 training of the Gottman Method and utilize this practice when working with couples.

I provide confidential and non-judgmental consultations, referrals, and professional psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups; specialize in working with the LGBTQIA + community; and address a broad range of client concerns and multiple diagnoses including: anxiety, depression, isolation, stress, grief, and creative/spiritual blocks.
I believe that the therapy process is a practice of paying attention to what is actually happening - it sounds simple, but this is actually a deeply profound and challenging stance to maintain towards life. The work we do in therapy involves bringing elements of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, how we relate to ourselves and to others, and how we move through the world, from the darkness of the unconscious into the light of consciousness where we can take a look at them. We do not have to struggle and toil in order to implement change in our lives.

Among the issues that I work with in therapy are life transitions, depression, anxiety, midlife issues, self-esteem, creativity, aging, stress, grief, relationship issues including LGBT , women's issues, the fear of flying, and the emotional issues that come with Celiac disease. I work with individuals to find new and more positive approaches to the challenges of life. I offer both short-term issue-focused therapy and long-term more depth-oriented work in which you can make better choices rooted in your core values.

I am here to offer acceptance and understanding on your path to knowing, expressing, and loving your true self. I use an eclectic model of treatment approaches and theories to create an environment that cultivates change through in-depth exploration of experiences and relationships, while providing skills for managing distress and struggles along the way. I have experience with Veterans, LGBTQIA + clients, homelessness, suicidal behavior, and mood disorders. I provide individual therapy at this time, but place a strong focus on relationships, and like to work in a open, strengths-based, sex-positive and gender-affirming manner.

As a queer and trans therapist, I have first hand experience of how challenging it can be to find a therapist who aligns with my lived experience.
Do you feel disconnected in your relationship, and struggle to communicate your sexual needs? Do you experience low libido or sexual pain? Maybe you and your partner have mismatched desire? Have changes to your body made intimacy more difficult? I work with trans , queer and allied people to address issues of sexual dysfunction, sexual desire, difficulty with arousal or orgasm, and life transitions affecting sexuality. People who choose to work with me are often seeking a therapist who has a lived experience with gender, sexuality, non-monogamy, and alternative family structures.

As a queer transgender , nonbinary individual with a non-traditional spiritual practice and collaborative approach to my therapy, I know that finding the right therapist is important. Whether in rural situations or in a big city—the therapy room is a space where a client doesn't have to explain or educate a therapist about sexuality, open relationships, polyamory, BDSM, body size, disability, chronic health issues, experiences of oppression, or racism. You are valid. I hold that everyone is an expert of their own life. I am not an expert when it comes to your life.

I have been working with people for 40 years and look forward to helping clients create healthy relationships with me, themselves and with those in their lives. I enjoy working with individuals from all racial and cultural backgrounds who are motivated to make changes in their lives; to reduce painful reactions; and increase their understanding of what makes them feel happy, strong and self assured. I encourage clients to do homework assignments in between therapy sessions, in an effort to help clients take ownership of their process, and learn coping skills that will last beyond treatment.

It takes courage to ask for help. I honor you in your pursuit of healing and wholeness. Experience and data show that a strong therapeutic relationship is the key to success in therapy. I endeavor to provide a safe container into which each individual human being who comes for therapy is welcomed. Being met with empathy, respect, acceptance, kindness, understanding, genuineness and non-judgement opens a space where each person can explore their issues without feeling the need to censor or conform. Having another person inalienably aligned with your own deepest Self empowers your unique route to healing and so transformation.

Everything about our lives is centered in relationship; knowing how to effectively initiate and maintain supportive, enjoyable and mutually satisfying relationships will serve us throughout our lives. But this doesn't happen without many ups and downs, some of which benefit from including a supportive, objective and helpful therapist. If you are wishing to improve your thinking, your skill in dealing with stress, anxiety, depression or trauma, living in past experiences or fearing the future, I would be honored to help.

I provide a supportive therapeutic relationship and skillful psychotherapy. I can help with a range of concerns that people bring to therapy. These include improving relationships, working through difficult feelings, managing anxiety, changing troubling behaviors, strengthening a sense of identity and purpose, or improving ones ability to cope with difficult circumstances. I work with teen and adult clients; individuals, couples, and families. Along with talk therapy, when appropriate I enjoy incorporating non-verbal forms of expression such as drawing and sand tray work.

It's the middle of the night and you can't sleep. You keep trying to understand why you are so stuck in your life and your relationship. Your partner is asleep in the other room because you are fighting again. You've done so much to try to feel connected but it isn't working. It's so different than what you experience when you are in community, surrounded by people who are vibrant and expansive. Like that time you were at Burning Man and you felt so alive only to come home to a life that feels numb, and disconnected. No matter how many plant medicine ceremonies, books, or courses you do, you still find yourself frustrated.

Sometimes the stresses and difficulties of life can become too insurmountable to face on our own, and we need additional therapeutic support to help navigate these obstacles and build resiliency. Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulty with coping, relationship challenges or workplace stress? These are some of the issues we can address together in therapy. If you want to make positive changes in your life and see an increase in your overall health and well-being, improved mood, feel more in control of your life, experience peace, discover your full potential or gain a better understanding of yourself, therapy can help.

Welcome. I'd like to let you know how I see therapy. For me it is important to provide a trusting, compassionate and understanding atmosphere so people can feel safe to explore, discover and develop basic qualities and skills necessary to grow and heal. I am a mindfulness, body-based psychotherapist who teaches the profound healing power of heartfelt awareness and how it can help people free themselves from negative and painful thoughts, beliefs and emotions. What I see happening with people who come to me is a belief that if they can control and avoid their pain and suffering it will go away.

Be fully yourself. Laugh. Cry. Be really afraid or angry—perhaps even at your therapist. Talk a lot. Sit in silence. Dive right in. Take it slow. Talk about something you’ve never talked about before. Talk about something inconsequential so what is bothering you doesn’t feel so overwhelming. All of this is welcome.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
