The clients I work with benefit the most when they embrace the comfort and discomfort that comes with building a therapeutic relationship. Reading all the blurbs is an excellent way to get brief insight into the character of a potential therapist, but whether or not someone will be a good fit is a difficult question with so many options. We know the relationship you build with your therapist is the largest indicator of success. With that in mind, go with your gut! Enjoy the process and embrace the change or help you seek.

I think the key component to the therapeutic relationship is transparency and communication.
I have been in the mental health field for 5 years. I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Master’s of Social work degree. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress. I have most experience treating complex traumas, anxiety, depression, self harm, suicidal ideation, anger issues, relationship issues, family conflict and stress.

My specialty areas include relationship issues, mental health disorders, traumas and addictions.
The pandemic was hard on all of us. If you feel like you need some support or help to desal the last couple of years, I'm here. We all need help occasionally. Learning how to approach and overcome these challenges shape us and allow us to experience life to the fullest. Therapy allows us to look at where we may be blocked and helps us find our own answers to living an authentic life. I discovered that building a supportive relationship through therapy creates a safe place to explore life issues, understand difficult situations, learn new skills, enrich relationships, and work through situations that lead to a more authentic life.

I provide a supportive therapeutic relationship and skillful psychotherapy. I can help with a range of concerns that people bring to therapy. These include improving relationships, working through difficult feelings, managing anxiety, changing troubling behaviors, strengthening a sense of identity and purpose, or improving ones ability to cope with difficult circumstances. I work with teen and adult clients; individuals, couples, and families. Along with talk therapy, when appropriate I enjoy incorporating non-verbal forms of expression such as drawing and sand tray work.

New Growth Psychology is dedicated to providing psychodynamic therapy to teens and adults. Psychodynamic therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but an evidence-based treatment that acknowledges the vastness of each individuals experience while holding pervasive themes that exist across human experience. This type of therapy can be a good fit for individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, existential crisis, or identity exploration. Some possible benefits of psychodynamic therapy include increased awareness of emotions, increased self-esteem and deepening in interpersonal relationships.

I provide confidential and non-judgmental consultations, referrals, and professional psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups; specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community; and address a broad range of client concerns and multiple diagnoses including: anxiety, depression, isolation, stress, grief, and creative/spiritual blocks.
I believe that the therapy process is a practice of paying attention to what is actually happening - it sounds simple, but this is actually a deeply profound and challenging stance to maintain towards life. The work we do in therapy involves bringing elements of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, how we relate to ourselves and to others, and how we move through the world, from the darkness of the unconscious into the light of consciousness where we can take a look at them. We do not have to struggle and toil in order to implement change in our lives.

Valuing the therapeutic relationship as primary, I enjoy working with clients at deep structural levels to promote insight, healing and integration. Paramount to this process is bringing awareness and understanding to the ways in which past conditioning and experiences impact how we see and relate to ourselves and others. The goal is to facilitate ever more conscious, authentic and compassionate ways of relating to the self, others and the world. While my foundational training is in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, I pull on a variety of techniques and approaches tailored to fit the specific needs of the individual, couple or family.

By utilizing an understanding of temperament I help individuals, couples, parents and children to honor and understand their normal individual differences.
I believe that solutions are as varied as people. Your individual style or temperament is the key to who you are and what works for you. I believe that everyone has a meaningful life story and in the power of telling that story and having it heard. I believe in inspiration and in practical solutions. I believe in the importance of good self care and that many things are therapeutic in addition to therapy. I will help you to find other inner and external resources which are supportive and helpful towards the changes you wish to make.

Some of the stumbling blocks I have the most experience working with are: Anxiety, Embracing an LGBTQI identity, Depression, Relationship Distress, Communication Breakdowns, Resentment, Family of origin difficulties, Surviving stalking, Substance addiction, Trauma, Sex and love addiction, and Codependency.
My practice is a living, evolving symbiosis of theory and heart. I believe each of us are on a unique path that is rich in potential and inevitably involves stumbling blocks. I see my role with therapy clients as a companion on the path. Together, we will investigate the stumbling blocks and decode their meanings, their purposes in propelling you further on your journey. We will also explore your aspirations and identify ways you can more fully embody your ideal image of yourself.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
