New Growth Psychology is dedicated to providing psychodynamic therapy to teens and adults. Psychodynamic therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but an evidence-based treatment that acknowledges the vastness of each individuals experience while holding pervasive themes that exist across human experience. This type of therapy can be a good fit for individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression,
relationship
difficulties, existential crisis, or identity exploration. Some possible benefits of psychodynamic therapy include increased awareness of emotions, increased self-esteem and deepening in interpersonal relationships.

I believe the development of a secure and collaborative
relationship
is the most important aspect of the work I do with clients. Working from a strengths-based and relational perspective in a trauma informed manner, I have experience working with at-risk youth, families, and adults using a multi-theoretical approach including Attachment theory, Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, Narrative therapy, Internal Family systems, Somatic techniques, and alternative therapies such as art and nature therapy. I love helping youth and adults through change and deep transformation so that they can actualize their goals in life.

I provide a supportive therapeutic
relationship
and skillful psychotherapy. I can help with a range of concerns that people bring to therapy. I work with teen and adult clients; individuals,
couples
, and families. Along with talk therapy, when appropriate I enjoy incorporating non-verbal forms of expression such as drawing and sand tray work.

It's the middle of the night and you can't sleep. You keep trying to understand why you are so stuck in your life and your
relationship
. Your
partner
is asleep in the other room because you are fighting again. You've done so much to try to feel connected but it isn't working. It's so different than what you experience when you are in community, surrounded by people who are vibrant and expansive. Like that time you were at Burning Man and you felt so alive only to come home to a life that feels numb, and disconnected. No matter how many plant medicine ceremonies, books, or courses you do, you still find yourself frustrated.

I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking a deeper awareness of their past, in order to understand themselves in the present and thrive in the future. I strive to create trusting relationships with my clients that allow us to work together collaboratively. I typically help clients with relational issues, depression, anxiety, life transitions and trauma. I utilize a LGBTQIA+ affirmative lens and fuse together a psychodynamic approach and when appropriate Attachment Focused EMDR to target traumas. I have also completed the level 1 training of the Gottman Method and utilize this practice when working with
couples
.

My specialty areas include
relationship
issues, mental health disorders, traumas and addictions.
The pandemic was hard on all of us. If you feel like you need some support or help to desal the last couple of years, I'm here. We all need help occasionally. Learning how to approach and overcome these challenges shape us and allow us to experience life to the fullest. Therapy allows us to look at where we may be blocked and helps us find our own answers to living an authentic life. I discovered that building a supportive
relationship
through therapy creates a safe place to explore life issues, understand difficult situations, learn new skills, enrich relationships, and work through situations that lead to a more authentic life.

Everything about our lives is centered in
relationship
; knowing how to effectively initiate and maintain supportive, enjoyable and mutually satisfying relationships will serve us throughout our lives. But this doesn't happen without many ups and downs, some of which benefit from including a supportive, objective and helpful therapist. If you are wishing to improve your thinking, your skill in dealing with stress, anxiety, depression or trauma, living in past experiences or fearing the future, I would be honored to help.

The clients I work with benefit the most when they embrace the comfort and discomfort that comes with building a therapeutic
relationship
. Reading all the blurbs is an excellent way to get brief insight into the character of a potential therapist, but whether or not someone will be a good fit is a difficult question with so many options. We know the
relationship
you build with your therapist is the largest indicator of success. With that in mind, go with your gut! Enjoy the process and embrace the change or help you seek.

Sometimes the stresses and difficulties of life can become too insurmountable to face on our own, and we need additional therapeutic input to help navigate these obstacles and build resiliency. Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulty with coping,
relationship
challenges or workplace stress? These are some of the issues we can address together in therapy. If you want to make positive changes in your life and see an increase in your overall health and well-being, improved mood, feel more in control of your life, experience peace, discover your full potential or gain a better understanding of yourself, therapy can help.

I think the key component to the therapeutic
relationship
is transparency and communication.
I have been in the mental health field for 5 years. I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Master’s of Social work degree. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress. I have most experience treating complex traumas, anxiety, depression, self harm, suicidal ideation, anger issues,
relationship
issues, family conflict and stress.

I welcome and affirm folks of all sexual and romantic orientations and proclivities, gender identities and expressions, and
relationship
styles and configurations.
I love working with folks who are curious, creative, and ready for a mindful and somatic inquiry into what’s really going on in that wild land of the subconscious. I believe therapy is a powerful tool for personal, interpersonal, and social change; an opportunity to update behavioral and relational patterns that have been passed down through traumatized families and cultures - including patterns of shame, ineffective relating, and emotional neglect. I offer weekly individual therapy via telehealth through Heart In Balance Counseling Center in Oakland, and in-person ketamine integration through the Center for New Growth in Eureka.

I provide confidential and non-judgmental consultations, referrals, and professional psychotherapy to individuals,
couples
, and groups; specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community; and address a broad range of client concerns and multiple diagnoses including: anxiety, depression, isolation, stress, grief, and creative/spiritual blocks.
I believe that the therapy process is a practice of paying attention to what is actually happening - it sounds simple, but this is actually a deeply profound and challenging stance to maintain towards life. The work we do in therapy involves bringing elements of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, how we relate to ourselves and to others, and how we move through the world, from the darkness of the unconscious into the light of consciousness where we can take a look at them. We do not have to struggle and toil in order to implement change in our lives.

Valuing the therapeutic
relationship
as primary, I enjoy working with clients at deep structural levels to promote insight into, and integration of their inter/intrapersonal
relationship
dynamics. This is a process that has, at its core, the goal of engendering ever more conscious, authentic and compassionate ways of relating to the self, others and the world in ways that facilitate genuine healing and intimacy.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
