Psychology has come a long way. As someone who has graduated within the past five years, with current knowledge in the field as well as life experience, I enjoy applying multicultural counseling, relational systems therapy, and trauma informed care for clients with all backgrounds, issues and concerns. Every client is a unique combination of past experiences, current challenges and strengths, and future goals and dreams, and I commit to fully helping clients understand the issues that they face with support, compassion, and information for the help they seek in therapy.

I believe the development of a secure and collaborative relationship is the most important aspect of the work I do with clients. Working from a strengths-based and relational perspective in a trauma informed manner, I have experience working with at-risk youth, families, and adults using a multi-theoretical approach including Attachment theory, Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, Narrative therapy, Internal Family systems, Somatic techniques, and alternative therapies such as art and nature therapy. I love helping youth and adults through change and deep transformation so that they can actualize their goals in life.

I provide a supportive therapeutic relationship and skillful psychotherapy. I can help with a range of concerns that people bring to therapy. These include improving relationships, working through difficult feelings, managing anxiety, changing troubling behaviors, strengthening a sense of identity and purpose, or improving ones ability to cope with difficult circumstances. I work with teen and adult clients; individuals, couples, and families. Along with talk therapy, when appropriate I enjoy incorporating non-verbal forms of expression such as drawing and sand tray work.

The pandemic was hard on all of us. If you feel like you need some support or help to desal the last couple of years, I'm here. We all need help occasionally. Learning how to approach and overcome these challenges shape us and allow us to experience life to the fullest. Therapy allows us to look at where we may be blocked and helps us find our own answers to living an authentic life. I discovered that building a supportive relationship through therapy creates a safe place to explore life issues, understand difficult situations, learn new skills, enrich relationships, and work through situations that lead to a more authentic life.

Welcome. I'd like to let you know how I see therapy. For me it is important to provide a trusting, compassionate and understanding atmosphere so people can feel safe to explore, discover and develop basic qualities and skills necessary to grow and heal. I am a mindfulness, body-based psychotherapist who teaches the profound healing power of heartfelt awareness and how it can help people free themselves from negative and painful thoughts, beliefs and emotions. What I see happening with people who come to me is a belief that if they can control and avoid their pain and suffering it will go away.

I have been working with people for 40 years and look forward to helping clients create healthy relationships with me, themselves and with those in their lives. I enjoy working with individuals from all racial and cultural backgrounds who are motivated to make changes in their lives; to reduce painful reactions; and increase their understanding of what makes them feel happy, strong and self assured. I encourage clients to do homework assignments in between therapy sessions, in an effort to help clients take ownership of their process, and learn coping skills that will last beyond treatment.

Anxiety has left you not wanting to get out of bed some days. You feel weighted down or always on edge, worried about every next thing and you don't know if you can cope with any of it. Things have happened in your past, there's been hurt and traumatic events and they seem to have a lasting impact for you, your family, and those you care about. You long to feel close and comfortable with those you care about. But everything that's happened in the past doesn't allow for the ease of connection you desire.

It takes courage to ask for help. I honor you in your pursuit of healing and wholeness. Experience and data show that a strong therapeutic relationship is the key to success in therapy. I endeavor to provide a safe container into which each individual human being who comes for therapy is welcomed. Being met with empathy, respect, acceptance, kindness, understanding, genuineness and non-judgement opens a space where each person can explore their issues without feeling the need to censor or conform. Having another person inalienably aligned with your own deepest Self empowers your unique route to healing and so transformation.

Sometimes the stresses and difficulties of life can become too insurmountable to face on our own, and we need additional therapeutic input to help navigate these obstacles and build resiliency. Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulty with coping, relationship challenges or workplace stress? These are some of the issues we can address together in therapy. If you want to make positive changes in your life and see an increase in your overall health and well-being, improved mood, feel more in control of your life, experience peace, discover your full potential or gain a better understanding of yourself, therapy can help.

I came to Humboldt County in 2001, after completing my psychology degree in Europe and my master's degree in psychotherapy in Syracuse, New York. I have practiced psychotherapy for the last 30 years, and I am familiar with a wide range of issues, situations and diagnosis. Although, I enjoy specific theoretical and practical approaches and models of therapy like CBT, SFBT for treating anxiety, trauma impact and depression symptoms, I clinically focus on what I believe suits best the individual and the situation. I view life as a journey towards betterment of the person and reach for happiness.

Everything about our lives is centered in relationship; knowing how to effectively initiate and maintain supportive, enjoyable and mutually satisfying relationships will serve us throughout our lives. But this doesn't happen without many ups and downs, some of which benefit from including a supportive, objective and helpful therapist. If you are wishing to improve your thinking, your skill in dealing with stress, anxiety, depression or trauma, living in past experiences or fearing the future, I would be honored to help.

Be fully yourself. Laugh. Cry. Be really afraid or angry—perhaps even at your therapist. Talk a lot. Sit in silence. Dive right in. Take it slow. Talk about something you’ve never talked about before. Talk about something inconsequential so what is bothering you doesn’t feel so overwhelming. All of this is welcome.

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
