Women who struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and many other emotionally draining conditions just wish they had someone to talk to who will listen without judgment. You may have experienced a traumatic break-up or even a trail of brokenness. You may have experienced child abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, or abandonment. You may have grown up with a family member with an addiction, watched parental violence, or had a partner with an addiction. At this point in your life you need assurance things can change, you want answers to why you ended up in the same relationships, and you need the coping skills needed to get past the past.

Through the unique connection of therapy you can learn to balance acceptance and change. By identifying self protective behaviors and defenses you can understand their origins, purpose, and how they may now be causing more suffering than protection. The symptoms of these barriers manifest as depression, anxiety, addiction, relational conflict, substance abuse, loneliness and physical illness. You can learn to challenge and release these old beliefs and discover new ways of relating to yourself and others. Through the balancing process of acceptance versus change you can develop new understanding that promotes healing and growth.

Hello high achiever, nothing has stood in the way of reaching your goals. Yet here you are feeling lost, uncertain of which direction to go. Somewhere along the road of success, you made some bad decisions, began to sacrifice your dreams and traded your confidence for shame. Everyone’s needs come first; job, husband, kids and you are last on the list. You feel exhausted, burned out and the self doubt has become a deep well that feels inescapable. And that’s painful. You’re in a moment to make a big change, you feel the weight of it, and it’s scary. Finding courage to move feels hard and you just want some guidance.

I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist helping my clients find more congruency and peace in their lives. People often believe that their feelings of anxiety and depression are their individual problem or failure, but very often these feelings are just a normal response to a challenging world. They come to their first session worried that they are crazy or deficient in some way, but they’re not.

You've just finished college, you feel like you've done everything right, and still something feels like it's missing. You're asking yourself, "This is it? This is the goalpost I was racing toward?" You've always pondered life deeply and felt sure of yourself and your path, but now you may find yourself wondering what the meaning of it all might be, and that question leaves you feeling a little lonely. I work with individuals who are ready to understand themselves more fully, whether that means working through processing life transitions, navigating relationships, trauma, or reconnecting with their sense of purpose.

EMDR is one of the most effective methods to stimulate the brain and body’s natural ability towards healing. EMDR is an evidence-based modality that uses eye movement, tapping, or sound to help the brain heal from difficult life experiences. EMDR can help with the treatment of PTSD, trauma, depression, and anxiety. This therapy is rewarding, and it could bring strength to situations that may have seemed hopeless.

I often work with individuals who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, stuck in patterns shaped by past experiences, or uncertain during life transitions. They may be a child struggling at school, a teen navigating identity and relationships, or an adult longing for deeper healing. They want to feel seen, supported, and safe—to understand themselves more fully and reconnect with their sense of strength and possibility. They’re seeking not just symptom relief, but lasting change, guided by compassion, consistency, and the belief that growth is possible—even in the messiest seasons of life.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
