Hello high achiever, nothing has stood in the way of reaching your goals. Yet here you are feeling lost, uncertain of which direction to go. Somewhere along the road of success, you made some bad decisions, began to sacrifice your dreams and traded your confidence for shame. Everyone’s needs come first; job, husband, kids and you are last on the list. You feel exhausted, burned out and the self doubt has become a deep well that feels inescapable. And that’s painful. You’re in a moment to make a big change, you feel the weight of it, and it’s scary. Finding courage to move feels hard and you just want some guidance.

I often work with individuals who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, stuck in patterns shaped by past experiences, or uncertain during life transitions. They may be a child struggling at school, a teen navigating identity and relationships, or an adult longing for deeper healing. They want to feel seen, supported, and safe—to understand themselves more fully and reconnect with their sense of strength and possibility. They’re seeking not just symptom relief, but lasting change, guided by compassion, consistency, and the belief that growth is possible—even in the messiest seasons of life.

Through the unique connection of therapy you can learn to balance acceptance and change. By identifying self protective behaviors and defenses you can understand their origins, purpose, and how they may now be causing more suffering than protection. The symptoms of these barriers manifest as depression, anxiety, addiction, relational conflict, substance abuse, loneliness and physical illness. You can learn to challenge and release these old beliefs and discover new ways of relating to yourself and others. Through the balancing process of acceptance versus change you can develop new understanding that promotes healing and growth.

Women who struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and many other emotionally draining conditions just wish they had someone to talk to who will listen without judgment. You may have experienced a traumatic break-up or even a trail of brokenness. You may have experienced child abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, or abandonment. You may have grown up with a family member with an addiction, watched parental violence, or had a partner with an addiction. At this point in your life you need assurance things can change, you want answers to why you ended up in the same relationships, and you need the coping skills needed to get past the past.

FAQ - PMDD Counseling
How can Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) affect mental health?
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) can have a significant impact on mental health. PMDD is a more severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and may cause intense mood-related symptoms in the days or weeks before a period, such as mood swings, irritability, anxiety, sadness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in activities you normally enjoy. For some people, PMDD can also worsen existing mental health concerns, such as anxiety or depression. Symptoms may also affect relationships, work, or school responsibilities, especially when they happen consistently month after month.

How can therapy help with PMDD?
Therapy can help you better understand the emotional patterns that may come with PMDD and help you track symptoms across your cycle, identify triggers, and plan ahead for times when symptoms tend to peak. Therapy may also help you develop coping strategies for managing intense emotions, communicating with loved ones, and reducing the impact PMDD has on work, school, or relationships. Approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be especially helpful for noticing unhelpful thought patterns and building more practical coping skills for responding to distress. PMDD is also commonly treated with medication or hormonal options, so a therapist may encourage you to coordinate with a medical provider if they feel this may be a helpful addition to therapy.

Can a therapist diagnose PMDD?
In many cases, licensed mental health professionals, including therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists, can diagnose PMDD. PMDD can also be diagnosed by other medical professionals, such as a primary care physicians (PCPs) or obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYNs).

Should I see a therapist or a psychiatrist to help with PMDD?
Whether you should see a therapist or psychiatrist depends on what kind of support you need. A therapist can help with coping skills, emotional regulation, and general patterns of thinking that may make symptoms harder to manage. A psychiatrist, in contrast, can help assess whether medication may be helpful and prescribe it, when appropriate. Importantly, many people benefit from both therapy and psychiatry. For example, you might see a therapist for ongoing emotional support and a psychiatrist for medication or medical treatment. If you are not sure where to start, your primary care physician can often help you decide what treatment makes the most sense for you.
