I utilize both Family Systems Theory and my extensive background working with betrayal trauma when working with couples in setting up a successful partnership.
Jaclyn Schwartz, MA, holds a license in marriage and family therapy (LFMT) through the California Board of Behavioral Health. She has been working with individuals and couples for the past 14 years in person and through telehealth, and currently works over zoom in order to see people from all over California. If you are a couple or individual looking for support before taking the next step in a commitment (premarital counseling), looking to heal yourself or relationship after betrayal (infidelity), or suffering from an addiction (chemical or sexual) I can help. Addiction and betrayal causes trauma that is real and treatable.

Using an integrated approach that incorporates Internal Family Systems ( IFS) and EMDR, I support clients in navigating their healing journey with care and compassion.
Heidi's clients include men, women, and adolescents who are struggling with difficult transitions, trauma, childhood abuse and/or emotional neglect. Many clients express loneliness or disconnection in their relationships and describe patterns of behavior that reoccur despite trying to change. These patterns are more noticeable in close relationships but may show up at work or school. Already knowing these patterns, clients may struggle to control their behaviors, manage feelings, communicate effectively, and feel tremendous shame and difficulty around setting boundaries and connecting with others

Therapy designed for your unique issues navigating complex trauma, PTSD, chronic daily anxiety, or stressful life circumstances and transitions. I work with couples or individuals, in person.

My background in family systems approach was the grounding in our studies at SDSU.
I have been working in the mental health field for over 40 years. I started working in mental health facilities in my early 20's while I was in college. I have worked with adults and adolescents in all kinds of modalities, yet I seemed to focus more toward young people and their families with substance abuse problems and anxiety. Some of that stems from having to deal with my own addictions in my late teens and finally getting clean and sober at age 20. Thus, I understand what it is like to be overwhelmed by addiction and the need to engage in a recovery process.

I approach individual therapy through an eclectic approach, but I lean toward Internal Family Systems/parts work, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Hello and Welcome! My name is Abigail and I'm a queer, neurodivergent therapist who strives to create a safe and comfortable space for therapy. I work with both adolescents and adults and specialize in working with complex trauma, queer individuals, neurodivergent individuals, those experiencing chronic illness, mood disorders, as well as chronic suicidality.
I, like many others, have struggled with being a part of marginalized groups and did not receive adequate care for my needs from providers. I was inspired to become someone whose passion is to consistently grow and learn about how I can do better for my clients.

I have successfully coached healthcare workers through burn out by creating space for healing through acknowledgement and release of the stress and trauma stored in their body. Letting go of these negative experiences, strengthens their connection to others and brings clarity to their passion and purpose. I have also led trainings on topics such as emotion regulation, conflict resolution and effective communication. I created and led various support groups and trainings related to grief, chronic pain, imposter syndrome and burnout.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
