Hello high achiever, nothing has stood in the way of reaching your goals. Yet here you are feeling lost, uncertain of which direction to go. Somewhere along the road of success, you made some bad decisions, began to sacrifice your dreams and traded your confidence for shame. Everyone’s needs come first; job, husband, kids and you are last on the list. You feel exhausted, burned out and the self doubt has become a deep well that feels inescapable. And that’s painful. You’re in a moment to make a big change, you feel the weight of it, and it’s scary. Finding courage to move feels hard and you just want some guidance.

I offer a compassionate space to explore how personal history shapes present struggles with trauma, PTSD, burnout, grief, loss, and life transitions.
Together we can rediscover meaning, build safety, and trust following life altering events through understanding how your personal history has impacted the patterns and processes occurring in the present. When things feel unfair, or unjust, we can talk about how rebalancing the ledger in contextual therapy may be helpful, and discuss adding EMDR.

I am Rev. Dr. Monika Maria Grace and I welcome you to my page! In our first session together, I also welcome you to my real or virtual office and I invite you to make it your own safe space. I explain that therapy is a process, a relationship, and an adventure. It's also a gift of discovery and renewal that only you can give to yourself, especially in our challenging days. In this process, my role is to listen, to support, to challenge, to guide, and to celebrate you as you are becoming more courageous to face the parts of yourself you were avoiding, more accepting of yourself and of others, and fully present in your life.

The tapestries of interpersonal relationships, grief, trauma, and recovery from addictions are woven with accepting ourselves, others, and change.
During turbulent times, individuals often do not have the "words" to describe their thoughts and feelings. For these reasons, I use an integrated experiential & humanistic approach, including Sandplay Therapy and symbolic imagery.

Women who struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and many other emotionally draining conditions just wish they had someone to talk to who will listen without judgment. You may have experienced a traumatic break-up or even a trail of brokenness. You may have experienced child abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, or abandonment. You may have grown up with a family member with an addiction, watched parental violence, or had a partner with an addiction. At this point in your life you need assurance things can change, you want answers to why you ended up in the same relationships, and you need the coping skills needed to get past the past.

My name is Judith Hails, but you can call me Judy. I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California since 2018. I provide an individualized approach to therapy that centers on helping you achieve your goals, while also making sure we have time to process day-to-day happenings that impact you. If you don’t know what your goals are yet, don’t worry. We can sort that out together, too. My go-to is CBT. The basic premise is that our thoughts influence how we view problems and modifying how we think about problems often changes how we feel about them. This in turn often has a profound impact on how we respond.

Tired of feeling burned out? I am an expert in treating anxiety, trauma, addictions, sleep problems, but also qualified to evaluate a range of commonly co-occurring mental health conditions like depression. I do more than just talk therapy! At every visit, I teach evidenced-based skills that have been rigorously tested. I have developed a consultation style to therapy based on my experiences as a psychologist integrated in medical teams. This style allows me to consider treatment from multiple perspectives and this generally leads to earlier improvement, fewer overall visits, faster feedback and treatment.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
