My experience includes youth, families, couples and individuals.
Have you always been complimented on your strength? Or even your courage? During times when you've felt like crumbling? Do you put on a happy face just trying to make it through the day? Do you not allow yourself to sit with the emotion? Trouble communicating your wants and needs to your partner? Are you carrying the weight of things beyond your control? Has there been a shift in your family? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, I would love to offer you a space to be heard, be seen, gain insight, and develop strategies that put you into the driver's seat of your life journey.

Are you feeling a sense of emptiness or loss? Struggling with anxiety or experiencing low moods? As a therapist with experience working with a diverse range of individuals, I deeply believe that mental health challenges are best navigated with support. I understand how overwhelming and isolating it can feel when there’s no hope or relief in sight. You don’t have to face your struggles alone. My primary focus is supporting individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and working towards healing childhood trauma, helping them find healing, clarity, and strength along the way.

I'd say my upbringing inspired me from my home to school. I have seen and heard mental health being mentioned as important and encouraged to take care of. I'd say full circle of having gone to therapy, becoming a therapist, and providing therapy is rewarding in itself, I'd have to put a paragraph explaining why, so I'll leave it as that. I look at therapy as a unique relationship that both mirrors and overlaps qualities of a good friend, parent, sibling, partner, etc., where both the therapist and client focus on tackling the concerns he/she presents in therapy.

I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist helping my clients find more congruency and peace in their lives. People often believe that their feelings of anxiety and depression are their individual problem or failure, but very often these feelings are just a normal response to a challenging world. They come to their first session worried that they are crazy or deficient in some way, but they’re not.

Heidi's clients include men, women, and adolescents who are struggling with difficult transitions, trauma, childhood abuse and/or emotional neglect.
Many of Heidi's clients experienced traumatic events as children such as alcoholic parents, emotional neglect/psychological/physical/sexual abuse. While others have experienced more recent negative events. Understanding today's issues through a lens that makes sense from client's unique experiences underpins the work to create adaptive strategies for today.

I have over 15 years experience working with children, adolescents and adults.
Parenthood can be blissful and full of love. It can be an immediate bond and bring families together. It can also be scary, traumatic and isolating. Every journey from trying to conceive, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum parenthood has a story. I support individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, are overstimulated, or stuck in reactive cycles. You do not have to suffer in silence. You are not alone.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
