I work with a broad range of clients presenting a wide range of issues: Anxiety, depression, substance abuse, domestic violence,
trauma
, grief and loss, individuals who feel marginalized due sexual orientation/identity, culture, race, gender or religion.
Life challenges can push us forward or, when too much, weaken our mind, body and soul. Feelings of anxiety, depression, anger or just feeling overwhelmed are common signs of a life out of balance. At these times therapy can help. Together we can look at what is burdening you and what is holding you back from engaging more fully and happily in your life. Through compassion and understanding you can discover ways to build a life reflecting your values, hopes and desires. In therapy you can learn skills that you were never provided.

Do you continue to feel stuck no matter where you turn? Are you craving for a sense of relief in your life? Sometimes we don't recognize the underlying reasons for our experiences. Each individual has their own way of coping through their day to day life. I understand the first step towards the healing process is support. We heal better when we know we don’t have to walk through hardships alone.

Early relationships shape the way the mind and brain develop from our young years into our adult lives. Our connections with caregivers induce neural circuit firings that persist throughout our lives, shaping how we think, feel, remember, and behave. When we are lucky enough to have secure attachment experiences in which we feel seen, safe, soothed, and secure—the “four S’s of attachment” that serve as the foundation for a healthy mind—these relational experiences stimulate the neuronal activation and growth of the integrative fibers of the brain.

Using a resiliency-focused approach, it doesn’t have to be an ordeal to heal. In fact, neuroscience has shown this is not the best way to work on oneself. Rather, focusing on regulating the nervous system using simple wellness skills and education about the brain and body connection can pave the way toward increased daily well-being as well as lay groundwork for resolving
trauma
. We can't always prevent stressors, and many of us have been through challenges or traumas in childhood that make it difficult to weather life's changes. Together, we will co-create the best course of treatment to help you live more fully in each moment.

My passion is in helping clients to feel empowered, capable, compassionate, and connected to self and others. I believe that humans are born accepting ourselves, “asking” for our needs to be met, and craving social connection. But life happens and we can lose that deep, felt-sense knowing that we are lovable, deserving, competent, and enough as we are. I help clients work through past experiences that may still have a hold on the present. And while working through these barriers, I (gently) push clients to take daily steps in the direction of their goals and values!

Do you notice a disconnect lingering between your child and others… maybe even you? Do you struggle to understand why your child is acting out of character or doing things they shouldn’t be doing? Are you finding it difficult to be there for them in ways that are helpful? Negative thoughts and emotions can be experienced from any age, including times that don’t always make sense to many adults and parents. Sometimes the best of intentions can come across as invalidating or belittling, which can result in anxiety, depression, or even
trauma
.

I specialize in healing work designed to address
trauma
and I work at the pace my client is able to manage.
I am an eclectic therapist, meaning I do not subscribe to any one therapeutic modality as I believe the therapeutic process is fluid and as a clinician, I must be the same. I help you manage depression, anxiety, ADHD, adjustment disorder, grief/loss,
PTSD
, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, children and adolescents navigating the difficulties of adjusting to parent's divorcing and behavioral issues such as oppositional defiance and conduct issues. In an effort to meet my clients where they are, I will take the time needed to examine, with you, the core issues surrounding the problem and assist in developing solutions from that ground work.

Everyone can enjoy a satisfying life of love, work and play. However, we may find ourselves in personal patterns, relationships, or with life issues that keep us from living to our fullest. Though circumstances and illness are difficult, our manner of dealing with them determines whether we are happy or sad, engaged or depressed, relaxed or anxious, and even feeling physically unwell or healthy.
Trauma
and poor coping are often related to our past desperate attempts to take care of ourselves in difficult situations. Through a passionate, humor-filled, authentic journey we can seek to understand and change your life.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
