Somatic practices to "retrain" the brain & nervous system are a staple in my therapy practice.
We live in a complex multicultural world, in that complexity lies the intersection of our identity as individuals and the systemic oppression many women and people of color face. I am a mixed race, lesbian therapist, and I believe many factors negatively impact our ability to seek therapy and heal from small and/or complex trauma. In taking the step to further your healing journey, we work together to understand the impact trauma has on the body and the false narratives we may have learned in order to cope & learn ways to manage persistent stress, anxiety, PTSD, depression, low self-esteem, codependency, grief and loss,

As a Senior Faculty of Trauma Resource Institute, I begin with teaching somatic skills.
Using a resiliency-focused approach, it doesn’t have to be an ordeal to heal. In fact, neuroscience has shown this is not the best way to work on oneself. Rather, focusing on regulating the nervous system using simple wellness skills and education about the brain and body connection can pave the way toward increased daily well-being as well as lay groundwork for resolving trauma. We can't always prevent stressors, and many of us have been through challenges or traumas in childhood that make it difficult to weather life's changes. Together, we will co-create the best course of treatment to help you live more fully in each moment.

I use a blend of talk and somatic therapy, art, play, and mindfulness to support clients to reach their therapeutic goals and cultivate healing and wholeness in their lives.
Hello! If you have found your way here, chances are you are experiencing life challenges that feel confusing, difficult, overwhelming even. These uncertain times can trigger issues such as high stress, anxiety, or depression, and life can sometimes be hard to navigate alone. Getting the right support at the right time is an important step on that journey. I provide a supportive space for adults, children, and families to unravel old patterns, learn to engage more authentically with themselves and others, and create space and freedom in their psyche from which they can make clearer choices and cultivate fulfilling relationships.

I'm a warm, affirming, somatic therapist who blends mind-body practices, EMDR, and parts-work to help you heal so you can build a more aligned life and relationships.
You want to be present, find ease, and fully enjoy your life and relationship but anxiety, trauma, and big transitions keep getting in the way. You've worked hard to create this life and your relationships. You do your best to "have it all together" for friends, family, colleagues, your partner. In the middle of all the roles, changes, and expectations you've lost yourself, disconnected from your needs, and lost track of your values and joy. Whether it is constant anxiety, imposter syndrome disconnection, or pain that keeps holding you back - you're just done living this way and ready to live more fully.

I'm here for you. I am well aware it is not easy to reach out for professional support. Much of successful therapy is about the connection between you and the therapist you choose. By working together, you will gain more insight about yourself, find reasons to challenges you go through, and ways to overcoming them and achieving your goals. Curiosity and empathy will be key components in our work. I work with adults and children, in individual, couple and family settings. You can view my specialties on this profile and my website. In addition, I supervise doctoral level post-docs who can help in case I don't have availability.

If you are at the end of your rope with your partner, your children, or with yourself, you are not alone. We all deserve to have someone on our team. As your therapist, I will help you create relationships in your life that work.

I believe that all people have an innate ability and desire for growth. Some of us just need that someone that they can talk to. Most of us think we are strong enough to be able to work it out on our own. Unfortunately, that is not always true. We tend to be our own worst enemy. Sometimes, a different perspective is all it takes. Many of us live life in accordance to our "belief system". If we carry a negative self view or the world, how can we expect to live life to it's fullest. We are working to heal our inner child through self-compassion, understanding, non-judgement and validation of self and others.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
