People who come to see me are often dealing with painful life-altering changes, depression, or anxiety. Some have long-standing emotional problems that have affected relationships or progress in their careers. People who have had therapy in the past and found it helpful are seeking to learn and understand more about their strengths and vulnerabilities. Frequently couples are struggling to recapture good feelings they once had with each other. Others want to recover from discovered infidelity . With my help they seek to manage the guilt, devastation and pain of lost trust so they may create a new relationship on sturdier ground.

You are struggling with Polyamory. It’s become a “thing” in our society and you feel so confused! Polyamory promises a life of integrity and transparency. These sound like noble goals, but jealousy lurks around every corner. It’s a private matter between you and your partner(s)—and you really don’t have anyone to talk to. Poly chat groups and Meetups aren’t your thing. You just need solid information about how people make Polyamory work. I can help you sort it out! I can explain what’s possible in the world of multiple partner relating—what has worked for others…and what might work for you.

Reaching out for help when you are in pain takes strength and courage. As a licensed therapist of many years, I work with individuals who are experiencing depression, relationship challenges, struggles with life transitions and grief and loss issues. I also work with couples who have difficulty communicating, are in a pattern of hurting each other and have lost a sense of closeness. I believe that providing a safe, warm and supportive environment and being interactive lays the foundation for a healing and transformative therapy experience.

“Let me support you to build a greater awareness of your wisdom, and strength” As a licensed psychotherapist I can provide that support, awareness, problem-solving skills, and greater coping strategies for issues as depression, anxiety, parenting, domestic violence, and relationship difficulties. I have clinical experience working with children (play therapy), individuals, families, couples and groups. We all have an 'inner critic'. A pattern of blaming ourselves for events that were out of our control. This negative inner talk is more powerful when we fall into anxiety or depression.

Chaos and heartbreak in relationships bring people to me. They are angry and confused as they face both a hidden crisis and the loss of support or connection. Some do not have a choice – there are lawyers or social workers, and orders and mandates to address. Many are filled with shame and self-doubt, so we begin with what I know even before we meet – “your feelings are real” and “you are not losing it – you have been overwhelmed.” You are struggling to accept what you cannot change, but we may help you find the power to seize control of what you can. Whether “you” is an individual or a relationship that seems hopelessly broken.

So if you're feeling like you’re struggling in your relationship and it’s time to make a change, you’ve come to the right place. I’ll help you talk about the problems that have brought you to therapy, issues you argue about that keep coming up and never get resolved, topics you’ve avoided and have been afraid of discussing, or anything that is important to you. We’ll explore how the stress of these problems has affected you individually and as a couple, and we’ll craft solutions to reduce conflict and increase respect, love, and a sense of partnership.

It is better to call me than using email. I have worked with men and women, from young adults to the elderly, and individuals who have come from all walks of life. My background has been psychodynamic, where one's early upbringing, culture, and environment are explored along with the persons present day struggles and concerns. I also have experience with cognitive behavioral treatment as well as mindfulness and relational therapy. Because everyone is unique, I like to provide the kind of treatment that will be most beneficial for those I meet. I take most PPO insurance as well as fee for service.

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
