Together, we can explore the cultural, societal, and
family
influences that may be keeping you trapped, and also identify ways in which some of those influences resonated and what you might like to "keep" from them.
Clients that typically find it rewarding to work with me are people who find themselves tired of trying to "fit" themselves into small spaces that do not truly honor the complexity of who they are spiritually, culturally, or with their sexuality. They want to start living more fully and authentically, and want to free themselves of old relationships and limiting beliefs that keep them stuck in old cycles of habit, obligation, and resentment. They make small changes and build insight over time so they can live more fully, authentically, and intentionally as their embodied selves.

An act of transformation begins with the acknowledgement that you have begun to "outgrow" your current self and present circumstances. Change and transition can be daunting. But the transformation to your best self is profound, and typically life altering. Whether the transition you are facing is a shift in relationship (divorce, loss of a friend/
family
member, new parenting, or "empty nest" parenting), a job/career change, college entry, or simply growing up from an adolescent to an adult, I am here to encourage and support, as you navigate your challenges.

Are you longing for a deeper connection with your partner? Are repetitive arguments and built-up resentments keeping you from the intimacy, peace, and enjoyment you once shared? You are not alone. Despite popular misconceptions, conflict is an inevitable and necessary part of a committed relationship. Without it, the love between two separate individuals could not evolve beyond fantasy and fixation. How couples work with conflict determines the success and longevity of their relationship.

As we move through life, some challenges easily become roadblocks to living the life we want. In therapy you can start to understand your struggles, find your strengths and experience a world that is unique to you. Therapy could be the most significant step you have ever taken. Together we might explore how your past relationships and your relationships with others came to be, how to integrate the conflict and tension that have become a challenge in your life, how to develop new skills to manage the issues you are presently facing.

I understand the
family
, not just the individual.
Perhaps life just got very difficult, or maybe its been this way for a while, and you only now feel ready to seek out support. Either way, I am glad you found me. I believe people are resilient and can create change. I believe people can significantly improve their relationships with others and with themselves, and while that comes with hard work and commitment in therapy, it certainly is within reach.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
