It's an empathic bond coupled with keen insights that facilitate real change, whether working with couples to learn better communication strategies or with individuals to work through
anxiety
, depression, or addiction.
My guess is that your most immediate concerns are (1) how do I find the right therapist? and (2) how do I fit therapy into my busy schedule? I get it. I have appointments available evenings and Sundays. I also believe the client has to be confident in the therapist's abilities. In addition to my educational and licensing credentials, I also bring the experience and added credibility of having served as the Clinical Editorial Chair for The Therapist Magazine.

THERE IS A BETTER WAY... Are you living with
anxiety
, depression, fear, guilt, or shame? Do you feel hopeless at times? You've probably heard "pain is unavoidable, but suffering is optional." We suffer because our mind makes up a story about the painful emotion and keeps it going rather than letting it pass. Through a combination of traditional psychotherapy and hypnosis, I can help you become aware of what's not working, and together, we can create new habits and ways to deal with pain and experience relief. Are you ready to feel more comfortable, secure, loved, and accepted?

I offer therapeutic tools and support for people dealing with
anxiety
,
panic
, depression, loss of self-esteem, and other life challenges.
Many of us have stories running through our head that dictate how we live our lives. I work with people to identify their stories and teach them to challenge how they’ve always thought, and how they’ve always done things. Indeed, I frequently tell my clients that I’m not in the relief and comfort business. Rather, my purpose is to provide people with the tools to experience joy and happiness.

An act of transformation begins with the acknowledgement that you have begun to "outgrow" your current self and present circumstances. Change and transition can be daunting. But the transformation to your best self is profound, and typically life altering. Whether the transition you are facing is a shift in relationship (divorce, loss of a friend/family member, new parenting, or "empty nest" parenting), a job/career change, college entry, or simply growing up from an adolescent to an adult, I am here to encourage and support, as you navigate your challenges.

Therapy is about exploring transitions and losses. A loss of a relationship, a job, a lifestyle, a home, a friendship, or the loss of a dream or expectation. We dismiss some losses, not realizing their impact on our day to day life. We may suffer from
anxiety
or depression without understanding why they are present. Other losses, however, can be so traumatic that we lose our ability to heal from them. Moreover, we find ourselves repeating the same mistakes, not being able to transform ourselves and change our behavior, even when we realize that our reactions are unhelpful and self-destructive. We wonder whether life will be better.

Though you move forward daily, you struggle with confidence and experience feelings of fear,
anxiety
& loneliness. You may feel overwhelmed, unloved, and unseen. While you may not understand how you got off track, you lack a sense of purpose: not finding true happiness in your daily living, difficulty feeling & expressing gratitude, and never truly living in the moment. Past hurt has caused you to build up protective barriers & while they help in some aspects, they also create an inability to connect. You’ve worked hard & accomplished so much, yet you struggle with persistent feelings of self-doubt. You may wonder: Where did "I" go.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
