Life is relationship. People come to therapy because their relationships seem strained: You feel misunderstood by your partner, fights increasing, the distance between you growing. You're not on the same page parenting the kids. There are fewer "good times." You feel alone. You crave a renewing, loving relationship, more family harmony. Perhaps you have not succeeded in creating the fulfilling relationship you desire and suffer in its absence, flying solo- anxious, depressed, bored. Can't relax, overwhelmed by your job. The therapeutic work we do together can help you overcome these challenges, building more satisfying, loving relationships, a better fitting life.

I offer Co-Parent Counseling to divorced couples who believe that children should be put first when a divorce happens, and wish to improve cooperation and communication. With couples who have low to moderate conflict I also offer Parent Coordination services whether voluntary or court ordered. I provide therapy to adults and older teens who are experiencing distress due to transitions in their life such as a role change, loss or relationship difficulties. I approach problems from a BioPsychoSocial perspective, taking into account all of the factors in one's life, and how they might contribute to - and help to SOLVE - problems.

I work with women ages 19+ and the LGBTQ+ population to help you clarify values, address traumas, enhance your emotion management, and feel more powerful without neglecting others in your life. Our work together will involve identifying the ways to strengthen your whole self. To do this, I take into account your family of origin, your current family, your involvement with other practitioners, spiritual practices, and community-supportive resources. I help you optimize your overall wellness by addressing any functional limitations from an integrative medicine for mental health perspective.

Do you feel like a misunderstood weirdo, even though you might look normal? I’ve got your back. Feel cramped by societal expectations and want to find the freedom and empowerment to be fully yourself? Step into my (virtual) office. I want to work with you if you are on the precipice of change. Or in the throes of shedding the skin of your former self. Or eyeball-deep in crisis. I want to work with you if, somewhere in there, you suspect that these times are the ones that hone our edges, define who we are and are not, and allow us to emerge from the ashes more empowered, brighter, stronger, and more fully in ownership of our truth.

I provide a comfortable, confidential, and supportive setting for those who wish to improve the quality of their lives. Often, this involves learning skills such as managing stress, clarifying goals, setting boundaries, improving communication, or addressing anxiety and depression. Some people find it helpful to explore previous relationships or events and the effect these things are currently having in your life.

Psychotherapy is a process of exploration, discovery and growth. I work with patients who want to learn about themselves in a safe and caring environment. Whether you are in crisis, have overwhelming stress, have family of origin issues, depression/anxiety or just need support for the many issues people face today; call my office to see how I might be of help and support to you. I work from a relational and contemporary psychodynamic model of therapy, meeting the needs of each person as an individual. I use modalties such as insight/relationally oriented psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
