Sexual abuse, early childhood trauma, compulsive eating and relationships are areas I specialize in.
My work focuses on nurturing the abandoned and neglected inner child using Somatic Experiencing and psychedelics (if desired) to understand coping strategies and protective mechanisms that keep you stuck, preventing you from being the fabulous being you are. The work with partnerships is inspired by PACT, EFT and largely informed by attachment and IFS.

Does your life from the outside look amazing, yet you feel lonely, directionless, anxious, depressed, or lost? You live in a beautiful place, have a gorgeous home, great trips, lots of friends, and many social and charitable activities to keep you busy, yet your relationships and your life seem distant and disconnected. Does your partner work too much? Are your children too busy? If you don't have children are you struggling with infertility? Or maybe you are struggling with your health? Don't worry - there is hope! I have seen this condition before and can help.

Many of us carry emotional wounds in our bodies, and only by connecting mind and body can we feel whole again. I use techniques like Jungian depth work, inner child healing, Internal Family Systems (IFS), relational, and somatic therapy to foster a lasting safe internal connection. When you’re in tune with your whole self, you’re empowered to heal relationships with others and the world around you, building resilience and deeper intimacy.

On paper, you’re successful. But in high-stakes rooms—whether pitching investors, leading a team, or negotiating deals—old patterns can take over. You shrink, over-explain, or freeze just when you need your full presence. I specialize in helping entrepreneurs and executives use EMDR therapy to move past imposter syndrome, money fears, and burnout so you can show up with clarity, steadiness, and confidence that feels natural.

In liminal spaces such as therapy rooms, exploration can include questioning the less examined, and a noticing of how our experience is being impacted by forces and beliefs that keep us doubting and in distress. In pausing, gathering and contemplating as if around a fire, possibilities emerge. How do you really want to respond in this moment or the next? What forces and practices make this journey painful, and what leads you to a state of wonder and feeling most alive?

Working through difficult experiences and emotions can be challenging. It can be even harder to make desired changes in ones life when certain patterns have been established for so long. I work hard to ensure that my clients feel safe and supported throughout this process. By creating a comfortable and lighthearted environment, individuals, families, and couples are able to gain some reprieve from the difficulties they are experiencing. This allows change to begin to occur in the lives of my clients.

Anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and the weight of past experiences don't just cause pain - they shape how you see yourself and how you show up with the people you love. If you've found yourself caught in the same patterns, wondering why things feel harder than they should, or simply wanting to understand yourself more deeply, psychodynamic therapy offers something most approaches don't: the chance to get at what's actually driving the difficulty, not just manage it. I work with adults, teens, and children in Encinitas and Vista, and I'm currently accepting new patients.

Your bright, creative, loving child isn't themselves lately. You can feel it. Many parents who reach out say something like, "I don't know if this is just a phase or something more," or "He has meltdowns I can't explain and I don't know how to help him." Your child might be holding it together at school and falling apart at home. You may see big meltdowns over small things, worry that won't quit, sleep troubles, or a sadness they can't explain. You're not imagining it and you don't have to figure it out alone.

We all have a story to tell. Our lives are full of hopes and dreams, fears and struggles. No matter if the client in front of me is a twenty year old struggling with their gender or sexual identity, a couple in their 40's experiencing mismatched desire, or a 60 year old with sexual dysfunction concerns, we all need someone to listen and support us. I consider myself to be an empathetic therapist. I want to support my client as best as I can. I also know that it isn't easy to go to therapy and I want to be someone who starts with where the client is at, but also know that I can be direct at times if needed, and softer at other times.

Hello and welcome! I'm Christiana, Christi if you prefer. I’m honored to join you in your therapeutic journey by co-creating a space of safety, empathy, and respect. My approach to therapy is strength-based and meaning-centered. Together, I want to build upon your strengths, grow your sense of self and autonomy, and explore what is most meaningful to you. In short—I want to know what it’s like to be you and I want to celebrate your commitment to yourself, which I know requires a lot of heart. My goal as your therapist is to make you feel seen, heard, and known, where no need goes unaddressed and no feelings are deemed unimportant.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
