Anxiety and OCD are my specialties but I also have some training in alcohol and substance use issues, as I completed my practicum at Sharp McDonald Center, a residential substance use treatment facility.
The therapeutic relationship can be an invaluable opportunity to foster growth, take intelligent risks, and rewrite unhelpful narratives. Often the most important and difficult changes in life are internal. Moreover, the most critical changes can begin with the acceptance of a painful reality. Sometimes it is helpful to explore these realities with a supportive individual who has some distance from the situation. I find the most successful clients are curious about their own beliefs and feelings. While they want to be challenged, they also believe in the necessity of self-compassion.

As a psychotherapist, I use a holistic approach that blends clinical research with Eastern wisdom. I have trained extensively for a decade with renowned Psychiatrist, Dr. Jeffery M. Schwartz in his Four Step Method, which combines Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with the Buddhist principle of Mindfulness. Although, the Four Steps was originally created to treat OCD , my recent collaboration in the advancement of the Four Steps has shown that it is also successful for various circumstances including anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, and eating disorders. My work is highlighted in Dr. Jeffrey M. Schwartz's new book, "You Are Not Your Brain".

I specialize in working with adults and teens on the autism spectrum who struggle with anxiety or depression, or who need support with navigating the academic, occupational, or social world. My goal is not to “fix” you - you are not broken! I aim to facilitate understanding, grow your skills, and expand your options in order to help you achieve your goals. In addition to autism, I treat those with anxiety disorders, OCD , tic disorders, ADHD, depression, and trauma. I also love working with parents, offering support for parenting stress, as well as tools and strategies for managing behavioral challenges in younger children.

If you're suffering from depression, traumatic memories, anxiety, or OCD , Image Transformation Therapy (ImTT) can restore your effectiveness in the world and the balance in your life. I developed ImTT while working at Camp Pendleton Marine Base because I needed a treatment that could release the most intense pain, terror, and memories without the person having to experience the feelings or relive the memories. The result is that ImTT treatment enables a person to live without self-consciousness and fear -- spending more of their life in the "creative zone."

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY32423) specializing in the treatment of anxiety (e.g., Generalized Anxiety, OCD , Social Anxiety) and depression. In addition to insight-oriented individual therapy, I offer Concentrated, Intensive Therapy (CIT) to treat OCD and phobias.
Relying on more than 15 years of clinical experience, I treat depression, anxiety, and addictions, among other issues. While I utilize evidence-based treatments, I practice from a client-centered perspective. My approach rests on compassion, as I fundamentally practice from a humanistic slant. I go to great lengths to avoid the type of stigmatizing language that especially plagues the addiction industry. There are no "addicts."

For the past ten years I have worked with children & adolescents experiencing Depression, Anxiety, OCD , ODD, PTSD, ADHD, Adjustment & Attachment Disorders, family, school & peer issues.
It is a helpless feeling when your child is struggling and you don't know how to help them. This pandemic has created a totally new and unexplored environment for our children. I am here to help both you and your child through this difficult time. I work solely with children from birth to 17 years old. I meet my clients where they are by creating a safe and fun space for them so that they feel comfortable talking about tough subjects and facilitating change. I believe that in working with children you must also incorporate their family and I encourage family involvement in all of my treatments.

Some of my areas of expertise include: anxiety, ADHD, OCD , depression, trauma, family dynamics, life transitions, marital issues, divorce, and co-parenting.
Working through difficult experiences and emotions can be challenging. It can be even harder to make desired changes in ones life when certain patterns have been established for so long. I work hard to ensure that my clients feel safe and supported throughout this process. By creating a comfortable and lighthearted environment, individuals, families, and couples are able to gain some reprieve from the difficulties they are experiencing. This allows change to begin to occur in the lives of my clients.

We all have suffering in our lives-- it's part of human experience. Too often, however, there is a layer of unnecessary psychological pain caused by unconscious defenses. We often resist painful feelings and the realities they point to. When we get stuck in our resistance we get emotionally sick and our suffering increases. I work together with patients to honestly and compassionately untangle, face, and accept the truths they've tended avoid on their own.

Having worked in a variety of settings, (inpatient, intensive outpatient and private practice) I have worked with and treated all types of disorders. I specialize primarily in treating mood disorders as well as addiction. With all my clients I employ an underlying humanistic approach based on the belief that each individual has the answers within himself or herself, and in working together we can uncover these answers. With a humanistic approach as my foundation, I then implement a variety of other techniques and modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, transpersonal therapy as well as mindfulness and meditation techniques.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
