Have you ever felt life drifting in a direction you never intended, leaving you unsure where to begin, or how to find your way back to yourself? Or noticed your child or teen is overwhelmed, withdrawn, or struggling to adapt to a new school or peer group? Maybe you’ve noticed big feelings showing up in ways that are hard to understand or manage. All people deserve to feel safe within their minds and bodies. Yet difficult experiences and life transitions can make that sense of safety feel out of reach. I specialize in supporting individuals ages 10 and up as they navigate anxiety, depression, and the lingering impact of trauma.

You wake up tense before the day even starts, yearning to burrow beneath the covers and block it all out. You suck it up to perform impeccably all day, no one suspecting the inner emptiness. Doomscrolling in the car after work, you dread going inside. You’re wired but tired, gifted but stuck, wondering how you got here. You’ve built a successful life, but stress, past trauma, perfectionism, and over-functioning are taking a toll. For the high achiever, corporate leader, burnt-out executive, or anyone with the quiet thought 'this can’t be it', you’ve come to the right place. You have a great life – I help you actually live it.

I choose to use an approach that is respectful, non-blaming, and collaborative. We live our lives through stories. Often times, these stories no longer align with our values and beliefs. This is where problems emerge and attach themselves to our stories. By gaining some distance from the problem, we can begin to change our relationship with the problem and discover preferred ways of being that closely align with our beliefs. I aim to empower my clients by positioning them as experts in their lives in a non-pathologizing, inclusive environment, where the problem is the problem and we together find the solution.

I offer in-person sessions in Emeryville, California and virtual sessions to anyone residing in California.
Does mental health live inside the brain? Or even inside the human body? What happens to our sense of well-being when we can’t to see a way forward for humanity? Or when we spend half of our lives struggling to earn an income doing something we dislike? How different might we feel if we found ourselves actively co-creating the kind of world we want to live in? And how do we truly work together toward the co-creation of a more beautiful world? How do we take full responsibility for our failures, and the impact of those failures on those we love? What does it take to construct a narrative that empowers? Who and what can we trust?

I offer both in-person and virtual sessions, during weekdays during the day and some post-kiddo bedtime sessions!
You're trying to get pregnant, stay pregnant, or adjust after birth — and your nervous system is exhausted. Waiting between cycles, navigating IVF, or living after loss brings grief, anger, and a constant monitoring of your body you can't turn off. In the postpartum months, sleep disruption, intrusive thoughts, feeding decisions, and partner strain leave you feeling alone or unsure of yourself. You might be an LGBTQ+ family navigating donor conception or queer pregnancy. Or a parent in the thick of it, wondering who you are now that everything has changed.

I see clients - individuals, couples & families - remotely & in person at my comfortable home office in beautiful Emeryville, CA.
I see things differently. I see you fully able to achieve your goals. I see you as one who likely needs a non-judgmental place to talk about things: your future goals, how drug/alcohol use, etc fits w/that future, & how you see yourself getting there: abstinence, sober curious. moderation. I'm a collaborator, one who's committed to listening deeply & providing a space to talk about anything, for individuals/families/all. My main focus is on today & tomorrow though we may visit the past as we seek to understand your behavior. Gratefully the science of change & addiction shows there's no one way to recover/change!

Transformation on a deep level is possible as we grow capacity for curiosity and contact- with our earlier life, with our truest desires, and with honest contemplation of what we have created out of our pain and from our fears. I work best with folks who have a deep hankering to wake up – to what has been, what is, and what might be.

It can be hard to meaningfully connect with others in today’s fast paced, technologically reliant world. Traumatic experiences may cause one to withdraw and isolate from relationships and the environment, or can possibly lead one to engage in self-destructive behaviors. Therapy is a tool that helps when feeling stuck or overwhelmed, whether those feelings are created from underlying anxiety, depression, trauma, loss/grief, relationship issues, stress, or issues with self-esteem.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
