I work with intelligent motivated clients who are functioning relatively well in their lives but may feel stuck in certain areas. Whether it’s a relationship, career, health issue, life transition or some other emotional or mental roadblock that has you feeling like you’re not functioning at your best, we can get down to the root of it, get clear on direction, move through it and move forward. Depending upon your needs and desires, we can also address health issues simultaneously. This is an additional optional opportunity to have another perspective in addition to other health professionals with whom you may be working.

Growing up did you experience painful or confusing boundary violations? Did someone whom you trusted, respected, or even loved touch you or fondle you in a way that made you feel uncomfortable, scared, or perhaps even made you feel confused and pleasured? Do you feel embarrassed and bothered by your experience, and worry that others will not understand how you have been sexually violated and abused? Do you struggle with managing your romantic relationships, your friendships, as well as your emotions and thoughts because your past uncomfortable experience with sex have made sex and your sexuality confusing, uncomfortable or even overstimulating? You are not alone.

My greatest reward as a therapist is seeing children, adolescents, families and individuals work through the areas of their lives that prevent them from walking in their fullest potential and overcoming obstacles to get to know themselves on a deeper level. Therapy is a personal journey that is empowering and healing. I work to structure sessions that are warm, compassionate and nonjudgmental. I incorporate clients in the process when developing goals based on their current struggles.

I offer relationship therapy for adults and couples. I can help you improve your relationships if you have struggled with this throughout your life. Today, you may have challenges with family members. Perhaps you avoid conflict because you get anxious and don’t know what to say when someone is angry with you. Emotionally, you may shut down, go numb or explode. Perhaps you fear your partner will leave you, or you think you are better off alone. Maybe you don’t know who you are, or who you are meant to be, or you often have critical thoughts about yourself. Perhaps you suffer from ongoing anxiety or depression without a known cause.

I have a Masters in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, which integrates Western psychodynamic & behavioral therapies with Eastern Buddhist-inspired modalities, with emphasis on cultural competency and social justice.
Many of my clients look like they have it together on the outside, but are struggling in navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, complex trauma, burnout, & the pressure of being the one who holds it together on the inside. I work with teens, adults & couples- people who are caring & self-aware, feel deeply, but often wonder and think of themselves as “too much.” Whether it’s your first time in therapy, or you’ve been before but felt like it was too surface to help with deep change, I can help. These are post-normal times, & we’re all holding more than we should have to. However that’s showing up for you, you are welcome here.

As a transpersonal, Jungian oriented depth psychologist, I will help you explore your own depths - To help you get at old, limiting patterns, that repeat and repeat... to get to the freedom of your own essence and true nature. Low self esteem, anxiety and depression are those states, that when explored, can be understood, and lifted with mindfulness, meditation, somatic and dream exploration, and in some cases medication if needed. I work with an excellent psychiatrist, if needed. Welcome back to your true self!

In our first sessions, I will ask many questions, utilizing humanistic and psychodynamic methodologies, to lay the foundation upon which I will get to know you more fully.
Are you an individual or couple looking to open up your relationship for the first time? Or maybe you have identified as poly for a while, and you would like some support through a particularly challenging time. I have been coaching & counseling non-monogamous folks for nearly a decade and have identified as polyamorous since before I knew what to call it. My passion is helping poly/non-monogamous people feel seen, heard, and understood as they traverse the challenging landscape outside of the normative paradigm. Our work will focus on deep self-reflection while building strong boundaries and expansive communication skills.

We all want happiness. However, we could lose clarity that has once helped us make healthy decisions when life prompts us with challenging situations: marital problems, family discord, difficult parent-child relationships, acculturation issues, individual psychological problems, spiritual crisis, personal existential crisis, or transitional life issues. My calling is to help people find happiness, whether by developing new insights into their troubling predicaments, increasing mutual understanding amongst family members through effective communication, empowering human diversity, thereby fostering a satisfactory outcome.

My role as a psychotherapist is to help clients acknowledge and harness their innate strengths, to attain and sustain the well-being they are searching for. I am passionate about gently questioning unspoken norms and expectations, whether learned from family or society, that can limit our ability to connect with our most authentic selves. I empower clients to take supported risks, guiding the therapy with empathy, honesty, humor, and a belief in the transformative power of relationships.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
