As a co-founder of The Couples Center, Workshops facilitator, I have the deep privilege of walking alongside hundreds of couples as they find their way back to one another. Over the years, I’ve learned that meaningful and lasting change begins with direct, open, and honest communication. Therefore, I create a safe and supportive space where couples can learn practical skills and tools, and actively practice new ways of communicating and relating to each other. Our sessions are active and engaging, offering a supportive environment where you can speak openly, feel heard, and explore different ways of connect.

You may be an artist. You may be an academic. You may be an activist. I have been all three of these, and I speak their languages: of creativity, intellectual enlivenment, and social justice. And right now, in this time of upheaval and unrest, you may be hurting--feeling lost, adrift, burned out, under- or over-stimulated, or simply sad. I am here to connect with you. To listen compassionately. To make space for you to better hear yourself, and to encourage linkages, mentalizations, and trauma metabolizations that will allow you to better listen to the rhythms of your body and use your own mind. I offer you my mind in this pursuit.

I offer in-person therapy in a warm, home-like El Cerrito office in a quiet residential neighborhood, and offer telehealth when suitable.
My ideal clients are adults and couples who feel stuck in painful patterns and want more than coping—they want real change and deeper understanding. Many are carrying early attachment wounds, developmental trauma, or the effects of overwhelming life experiences that shape how they relate, regulate emotions, and feel safe with others. I work with individuals dealing with anxiety or disconnection, couples caught in cycles of conflict or distance, and individuals recovering from or living with the aftermath of psychosis or destabilizing altered states who are seeking steady, respectful support.

I am available for IN-PERSON and VIDEO sessions on Fridays.
When life feels chaotic and overwhelming, it can be hard to know where to start or how to find a steadier way forward. Many people come to therapy feeling stretched thin—managing anxiety, depression, grief, or relationship challenges while trying to keep the rest of life running. They want relief, but also a clearer understanding of what’s contributing to their stress. Most of all, they want to feel more centered, more confident, and more connected to who they are. My role is to help you find that place, offer new perspectives, and teach more adaptive coping strategies.

It's hard to go it alone with painful feelings of confusion, guilt, sadness, anxiety, despair. Therapy helps to unravel internal knots related to relationship conflict, work dissatisfaction, and just getting through the day. These issues may be connected to a history of family dysfunction, divorce, addiction, mental illness, abuse, unresolved conflict or estrangement from loved ones. I can help with that.

With warmth and humor, I actively guide and support clients to reach their therapeutic goals. As a certified Emotionally Focused Therapist I am highly skilled at assisting couples to identify the patten of communication that keeps them stuck, explore its roots, normalize it, and transform it so that each person can reach for the other in a new, more heartfelt way.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
