Selecting a therapist to trust can be daunting. As in any relationship, there must be a good match on many levels. New clients often ask me, "What is your technique?" In my twenty-five plus years of experience, I have learned not to apply a blueprint of "one-size fits all," but to focus upon the particular problems, and stressors that have brought you to seek help. My clients have expressed appreciation for my pro-active style; I am compassionate but not passive during sessions. My training in both hypnosis and mindfulness has given me unique tools to help my clients when appropriate.

Are you unhappy in your relationship but don't know what to do? Relationships are the most important part of our lives. Yet, they are not always easy, especially with the people closest to us. Problems arise in every couple's relationship, especially under stressful circumstances such as fertility issues, problems with children, aging parents, blending families, lack of sexual intimacy or coping with a job loss. Stressors like these can contribute to conflict, distance, and other painful relationship interactions. I understand what you are going through and know how to help you find real solutions to your relationship problems.

It hurts every day- despite you doing the best you can to distract yourself, the minute you stop pre-occupying yourself with distractions, you connect immediately with that emotional pain inside and the emptiness and alienation. The emotional pain comes from disconnection. You don’t feel your partner is responsive and present with you. You don’t feel wanted and needed or important. When you try to address this, it doesn't go anywhere, or you end up having a fight, which makes you feel even more devastated and distant from each other. You work so hard and give so much, you are still feeling not good enough and get no acknowledgement.

If you're reading this, you're probably the kind of person who values their well-being and wants to function at their highest level. It takes strength to reach out and seek help. It’s normal to face challenges in life, but when stress, anxiety, depression, or past trauma start to take a toll on your well-being, it can feel like you’re carrying a heavy weight. You don’t have to navigate this alone–healing is possible. My goal is to help you break free from cycles of low self-esteem, fear, shame, and isolation, so you can begin to live fully and authentically.

I love working with married or dating couples who want to strengthen their relationship. These couples may love each other very much, but struggle with communication and often feel disconnected, frustrated, criticized, rejected, lonely or disappointed. They yearn for more emotional and physical intimacy, yet fall into negative patterns that create more distance. They often want to rekindle their romantic spark and cultivate more playfulness, curiosity, exploration and fun in their sexual relationship. These couples want to heal from past hurts to nurture a safe and secure relationship built on trust, commitment and mutual respect.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
