Are you exhausted in a way that’s hard to explain? Do you find yourself going through the motions of a life that looks fine on the outside, while quietly feeling disconnected, depleted, and far from yourself? If so, you are not alone, and something can be different.
I work with women who are carrying a lot. Women who grew up learning to be everything for everyone else, and somewhere along the way lost touch with who they actually are. Women healing from trauma, narcissistic abuse, eating disorders, and the particular kind of exhaustion that comes from spending years performing a version of yourself that doesn’t quite fit.

This is me at the beach with Shannon, our 25 year-old daughter. My wife Vicki and I had the good fortune to raise her here in beautiful San Diego North County, where she has had the opportunity to become an accomplished surfer, sailor, diver, and nature photographer. Vicki and I are a Marriage and Family Therapist team in private practice here for 20+ years in Encinitas, California. As well as seeing couples and families, I have specialized in treating anxiety disorders and phobias, depression, alcohol and substance abuse, and adolescents.
I completed my B.A.degree at the University of Connecticut and graduate training at Purdue University. Using an eclectic approach, I combine elements of cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, client-centered and mindfulness therapies in my practice. I am also certified in Clinical Hypnosis for use in weight loss, smoking cessation, habit control and anxiety reduction.
I began focusing on treating adolescents very early in my career, and I have always enjoyed working with their youthful energy. Helping parents to work more closely together and develope simple and effective parenting skills can transform a stressful, contentious family life i

People seek a psychotherapist because they are experiencing emotional distress, often caused by issues related to relationships, family, marital problems, stress, and general dissatisfaction with one's life or work. My job as a psychologist is to find a path leading to both relief of these symptoms and to an understanding of oneself, which together provide for both short term and long term relief from these states. I do this by providing a non-judgmental and supportive therapeutic environment which promotes a deeper understanding and exploration of oneself, with the belief that this increased self-awareness ultimately leads to positive changes and better coping skills.

My ideal clients are often the ones who appear to have it all together on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected on the inside. Many come to therapy struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, life transitions, relationship patterns, or past experiences that continue to impact the present. Together, we move beyond simply understanding why patterns exist and begin creating meaningful change. Using approaches like EMDR, narrative therapy, and evidence-based practices, I help clients reconnect with themselves, build self-compassion, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and aligned.

You may appear capable, accomplished, and composed while privately feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or unable to quiet your mind. Perhaps you are successful yet have a persistent sense that you are not functioning as well as others believe.
I work with high-functioning adults who are insightful and motivated but continue to feel stuck in patterns they cannot simply think their way out of. You may understand why you react the way you do and still find yourself becoming anxious, shutting down, overthinking, procrastinating, losing focus, becoming emotionally flooded, or repeating the same painful relationship dynamics.
