I hold a safe,
trauma
informed,non-judgemental, inviting space where I will meet you where you are and we will work collaboratively to identify your strengths, values, goals and oppurtunities for growth.
As a fat, queer, neurodivergent disruptor of societal norms and systems, I hold a strength-based attachment focused framework that values and celebrates all genders, sexualities, bodies, ethnicities, cultures, abilities, family structures, religions, and socio-economic locations. I see these intersectionalities as a beautiful tapestry of personal empowerments which can become the foundation from which we work collectively to identify, address and dismantle systems of oppression. I believe humans shouldn’t be pathologized in a society designed to keep people sick and stuck.

Does your son or daughter seem unhappy, worried or frightened? Do they frequently get into trouble at school? Has there been a shift in their behavior that concerns you? Do they have difficulty making or maintaining friendships? Do they act mean, have angry outbursts or act aggressively because they cannot control their actions? Are they restless or have difficulty concentrating? These are just some of the problems I assist children, adolescents and their families in overcoming. Call me and we can talk further. I also work with adults with anxiety, parenting challenges, or those who have struggled with
trauma

My psychotherapy practice is built around helping people create significant changes in the way they are able to live their lives. Those who have been challenged by the experience of becoming parents of a difficult child, those who have had their lives disrupted by
trauma
, those struggling with food issues, and those who desire to deepen their understanding of themselves are among the people who will find a welcoming space in my office to slow down and reflect. I believe that living a mindful and aware life is a true blessing.

Drawing on training in relational psychology,
trauma
therapies, griefwork, and mindfulness meditation, I focus on building a genuine relationship, supporting an inquiry that allows you to settle into who you really are.
For most of my clients depression or anxiety is impacting life in a negative way. Sometimes grief causes this disruption; sometimes a history of early life
trauma
continues to undermine a sense of well-being; sometimes low self-esteem or feelings of being alone are intensifying. One may be struggling and hasn't yet found a way to make sense of why--"something just feels wrong inside of me but others cannot see or understand it."

Talk therapy hasn't quite been the answer, and you're open to new approaches that acknowledge that
trauma
is stored in the body and is best resolved through body-informed psychotherapy.
Most people think you're doing well in life. They can't see how your past has left you feeling not good enough, full of self-doubt. You take responsibility for everything. You do a lot (and are great at some things), but your self-confidence can crumble instantaneously. You are stressed and anxious one minute, ashamed and depressed the next. You're no stranger to panic attacks, irritability, feeling blah, concentration troubles, or feeling numb. Your body is paying the price as well, with chronic tension, insomnia, high blood pressure, or unexplained physical symptoms. Living this way is exhausting!

A favorite quote of mine is, "The truth always happens." Too often, our present truth is filled with suffering and anxiety. But we can shape our truth, to better cope with disorder or overcome pain and
trauma
. The therapeutic process provides insight into behaviors and actions that allows for growth in self and relationships. I specialize in working with children, adolescents and adults of all backgrounds, helping clients and families to understand a range of behaviors and disorders. Working together, clients learn to recognize feelings, relate them to behaviors, and develop tools to recreate their own truth.

Is something in your life not quite working the way you would like? Are you feeling stuck? It can often be helpful to talk though some of the issues we are struggling with in a therapeutic relationship that feels understanding, safe, and compassionate. Human beings aren't meant to "go it alone". In fact, feeling alone is inherently traumatizing itself. I have been licensed for over 20 years, working with individuals, couples, and families to heal their relationships, and to overcome
trauma
, depression, and addictions.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
