In addition to a
psychodynamic
focus to help you on your journey of internal understanding and healing, I use mindfulness, hypnosis, and behavioral techniques to transform intense and painful emotions and use EMDR to assist healing from trauma.
My psychotherapy practice is built around helping people create significant changes in the way they are able to live their lives. Those who have been challenged by the experience of becoming parents of a difficult child, those who have had their lives disrupted by trauma, those struggling with food issues, and those who desire to deepen their understanding of themselves are among the people who will find a welcoming space in my office to slow down and reflect. I believe that living a mindful and aware life is a true blessing.

My
psychodynamic
and empathic approach can help you gain clarity and find direction.
My life philosophy is simple. I approach life with dedication, integrity and a sense of humor. The latter always comes in handy. While a native Californian, I’ve been lucky enough to have lived in three different countries and have learned that no matter the land or language, people crave love and union. People are waiting to tell their story, be heard and accepted.

I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities including existential, humanistic, transpersonal, systems,
psychodynamic
and object relations.
I believe that we all have an innate desire to become the best person that we can be and we all adjust to difficulties in life in ways that work in the moment but which frequently then become routinized and prevent us from being fully alive and authentic. I work with people to help them sort through what is not working in their lives and help them access deep internal resources so that they are able to experience greater freedom and choice in their lives.

We all endure challenges at some point or another in our lives yet we continue to strive and move forward to find peace, solace, content, or happiness. Therapy can help identify those goals, overcome barriers, and henceforth, head toward betterment or enrichment via personal growth.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
