If you're a parent who is feeling anxious, uncertain about the future, possibly depressed, stressed out, or having a low mood and energy, you are not alone. Balancing the stressors of work, relationships, and physical pains has been challenging. Your life has not been the same since your baby was born. Not every mother's journey is free of challenges. I provide support to women that are faced with infertility, loss, grief, birth trauma, parenting NICU babies, medically ill children, or children with special needs,
perinatal
mood & anxiety disorders, adjusting to motherhood, and partner conflicts after becoming parents.

As you start on the path to motherhood are you feeling anxious, sad, perhaps ashamed or just not yourself? It can be frustrating, draining, overwhelming, and at times heartbreaking. Unfortunately, it's often not the reality and I am here to support you regardless of where you are in this journey. Imagine how it would feel to be the best version of yourself. To enter motherhood confident, happy, and calm. Together we can get you feeling that way.

I believe that people experience healing in and through relationships. Brené Brown defines connection as “the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship”. Therapy can be a powerful, safe space to experience that connection both as individuals and partnerships.

I am offering in-person therapy only. Self doubt, lack of confidence, stuck-ness, and living through challenging daily symptoms and stressors can make it hard to access authenticity, zestfulness and your life's full potential. You are capable of healing, shifting and integrating negative experiences into something that can launch you forward and bring wisdom. I offer warm presence, encouraging easeful participation and inviting your creative spirit. You can unlock, embrace and expand your personal capacity for growth, authenticity, innovation, self-expression and positive impact.

Through a respectful process of listening and questions, I work with you to help clarify your goals and values. I will help you find new perspectives and restore a healthy narrative that does not include feelings of blame or shame. We will work together to develop better skills at managing difficult emotions, such as sadness, disappointment, pain, and anger. We will learn to nurture feelings that are healthy and not those that can get us stuck. I hope to work with you to discover a sense of self-compassion and flexibility.

Therapy is a collaborative process that can help you live a full and authentic life. While some people think of treatment as a way to address acute and uncomfortable symptoms, it can also be a tool for personal development. Most humans engage in repetitive and self-defeating behaviors that interfere with emotional freedom and growth. My goal as your collaborator and guide is to help you identify those cycles and explore new ways of being in the world to achieve a joyful and fulfilling life.

I also offer a collaborative and supportive partnership in addressing relationship trauma, challenges with sex, and sexual trauma. My practice includes individual therapy, brief and long-term therapy, sex therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
