I bring a transparent realness to the therapeutic process which I find fosters a healthy, trusting and secure
relationship
that lends itself to sustainable and positive change.
Are you feeling depleted and overwhelmed? Are you finding it difficult to connect with others or no longer feeling like yourself? I assure you, you are not alone. I am here to help. I have over 15 years of experience providing support to children, adolescents, adults and families struggling with anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict and self-esteem issues. I really enjoy working with parents. One of my passions is working with people on the autism spectrum who want to build socialization skills that allow them to celebrate the beautiful person they are rather than focus solely on how they conform to societal norms.

As both a
couples
and individual therapist I practice emotion-focused therapy (EFT) with influences from both attachment and family system theories.
I believe that people experience healing in and through relationships. Brené Brown defines connection as “the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they derive sustenance and strength from the
relationship
”. Therapy can be a powerful, safe space to experience that connection both as individuals and partnerships.

Building a strong therapeutic
relationship
is an important foundation in which you will learn to become more flexible in your problem-solving approaches.
What goes on in your mind, plays out in your body, and becomes your reality in your world. Whether you are entering therapy for the first time or you are looking to refine changes in your life, you are starting on a journey of self discovery which is deeply personal and courageous. Each person arrives with their own unique life story, strengths, barriers and goals. Therapy is a collaborative process. I believe my role is to create a non-judgmental, warm, respectful, and safe environment.

I work with a range of clients including adolescents, adults, families, and
couples
.
Life can be challenging at times. However, I believe that people have an amazing ability to heal and transform negative patterns that are no longer serving them, as well as develop more meaningful ways to approach life's hurdles. We can often get stuck during difficult moments, and outside support can be helpful during these times. As my client, I will support and encourage you to identify the solutions that are best for your life. I understand that deciding to reach out for help can be intimidating. My treatment approach will respect and honor your individual process.

Are you in a place in your life where you feel you have lost your voice? I empathize with my clients how it feels to lose their sense of self and to seek direction in life. As your therapist, I want to help you break down your problems and illuminate the parts of yourself that want to be discovered. I help clients that come from diverse cultural backgrounds, life stories, religions, and family traditions. I meet my clients with an endless curiosity and a passion to learn where they derive from. I adapt my therapy style by considering individuals’ generational histories.

I've been in private practice since 1987, working with individuals and
couples
. I work with men and women, ages 19 and above, who may be overwhelmed and confused by a life crisis or transition; who may find themselves holding back in their lives, not knowing what they want or afraid to go after it; repeating the same patterns in each of their unsatisfying relationships, leaving them feeling lonely and unseen. I am honored to accompany each client on a journey toward wholeness and peace of mind.
Having traveled extensively, I have a deep appreciation of other cultures and languages.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
