Also: Anxiety, Divorce, Intimacy, Desire, Depression, Conflict, Communication, Complex Grief.
Welcome to my mindfulness based practice. I work with people (and couples) juggling multiple areas of stress and challenge: Relationships, Work, Family dynamics, Children, Health, Aging Parents - you name it. I hold space for you to share, as I listen closely. And then, I support you in finding new ways to move forward. We uncover patterns and discover a greater range of possibilities. Often, we look at childhood wounds impacting thoughts, feelings and behaviors. My office provides a slow down in this fast paced world. I listen with empathy and work collaboratively - to help you grow, feel better, and enjoy life again.

Many of the things with which we struggle, such as anxiety and depression, are ultimately tied to difficulties in how we relate to ourselves, our life trajectories, and above all, to others.
Much of our work together involves helping you increase your awareness, ability to manage, and utilize your feelings in and out of session to live a valued life . This includes helping you connect with what you are experiencing in the present moment more fully and at a deeper level, as well as understanding how your past has influenced your present.

Many people struggle with relationships, life transitions, isolation, school demands, perfectionism, career decisions, body image, depression, anxiety, trauma, sexual orientation and suicidal ideation.
I believe that each one of us has a genuine need to feel valued and connected. I also believe that connection is the foundation in our lives. We all need to find our purpose and find a place where we can belong to something bigger than ourselves. Sometimes our inability to connect with others can leave us feeling empty, hopeless or insecure. It can cause us to isolate, tolerate unhealthy relationships, abuse substances or lose our direction. When we learn to build healthy connections and find our purpose, we are more likely to experience hope and fulfillment. I am a licensed clinical social worker with 35 years of experience.

Many of the people I work with often feel worried, sad, overwhelmed, stressed, or navigating grief from a major loss.
I offer a compassionate, yet direct and gently challenging approach. Fostering a supportive and accepting place for people to explore change is one of my professional strengths. While I provide traditional talk therapy, I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an alternative way to address distressing and traumatic memories.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and trauma.
I believe that you are intrinsically worthy of love and belonging but I know that often we are made to believe that being ourselves is not good enough. Self-love and acceptance can begin within this space; a place where all feel welcomed and relaxed, free from cultural and societal expectations. I'm glad you're here.

It is hard to be overwhelmed and feel emotional pain. It is hard to be human. Our work can help turn your wounds into wisdom, your unnecessary suffering into more internal freedom and your stuck patterns into a new vitality in life. I tend to be a good fit for people who are not only looking for immediate relief from emotional pain, overwhelm or emptiness, but are also drawn to exploring the deeper patterns contributing to unnecessary suffering in their lives.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity shifts, addiction, or family crisis, I believe the therapeutic process provides a rich landscape in which to heal.
I am convinced that awakening the imagination in the context of therapy helps people create a more authentic and multifaceted self image. The re-imagining of the self opens people to the possibilities inherent in the present moment rather than their clinging to defensive coping patterns that no longer serve them.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
